VimanaA boom brake using a good, old-fashioned, climbing figure 8 Descender. So thats £10-£15 versus £250 odd for that other one. Going to try this out and incorporate some other climbing rigging tricks too if needed. I reckon some sort of "friction brake" instead of a "lock" might be worth looking into to help protect the rig. Unintended Gybe prevention methods starting with a climbing fig 8 and a few slings... Water was about a 0.9’ above low water. I’ve been dreading the return for almost 7 weeks. Today, water was 1.3’ above low water. And rising all the way to 1.4’. We drifted through without a problem. What. A. Relief. (And a testament to learning to wait for the higher tides under the full moon.)

DK MokCool article about a wind-powered, transatlantic cargo ship now taking passengers. I love the idea of a return to wind-powered sailing as an option for the global commute. A comfortable, lo-fi way to travel, with a carbon footprint 100x smaller than catching a plane.
