Dug out the GP2X today.
I had some real fun with this ARM-based Linux-game console - wow - nearly 20 years ago! A little Montezuma's Revenge for the SMS shown running under emulation, here.
Such a fun device!

And it is done. I am not super happy with this mod. Needed a lot of cutting of the shell. The screen has very good quality though!
Would be nice if they sold aftermarket shells exactly for this mod. Screen is also a lot bigger than the original one!

That are quite a few controllers I took care of during the last week.
Personal favorite is the Sega Saturn controller which is new to my collection.
This version was sold in the US and EU only as Sega expected players from this region to have bigger hands and therefore would feel much more comfortable with this bulkier version of the controller. Later they also changed the controller for these regions to the original smaller ones from Japan.
what an exceptional soptware library on this mega darve
just loved werstle mania and ninja turties when i was a kid

Pausing the project here for a bit. With seven pins dedicated to reading a #SEGA controller, I can use the 8th pin as a signal from the #Arduino not just to indicate when a certain thing is happening, but also as a trigger in #PulseView to start capturing data.
Are you an Arduino/generally a microcontroller or electronics hobbyist? You should go buy a #nanoDLA logic analyser - for a few bucks you can easily visualise exactly what's going on with your I/O signals. Solid recommendation from me.
Its first project will actually not be anything to do with RS-232 - early #SEGA controllers also used a 9-pin D-sub connector, so this same thing can be used to tap those pads' signals as well.
My goal here is not to re-invent the wheel, but to reproduce Jon Thysell's excellent work in deconstructing the SEGA 3- and 6-button controllers' protocols for my own learning and understanding: https://jonthysell.com/2014/07/26/reading-sega-genesis-controllers-with-arduino/
This isn't the SEGA tower of power, it's the... subterranean tunnel of terror?
For #throwbackthursday I figured I'd post the time not long ago that I networked two of my Genesises (Genesi?) with a custom cable to play 2-player Zero Tolerance on two screens
If the player inserts almost any other Mega Drive cartridge into the slot adapter, again a screen with Sonic characters and a scrolling text "No Way" appears.
This time after pressing the A, B and C button at the same time the player gets to play only a single Special Stage without the password ability based on the serial number of the cartridge's ROM header data.

Before I go and do something stupid.
Can anyone shine some light on the Japan exclusive PS2 version of Outrun 2 SP Special Tours?
I’ve read that it adds quite a few new features and content, like an additional 15 tracks.
But what I’m wondering is how it compares to the original Xbox releases as well as the online rerelease on 360 and PS3.
Good news: An RPG that was on the Saturn is now available on modern consoles! Bad news: It's a remaster that lacks practically everything that made the Saturn version unique! I explain how Suikoden HD Remaster is disappointing to Saturn fans in my new story:
You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
(Not my image. I’m a pleb with just a base Genesis)
What I really like about the Sega Genesis version of Lost Vikings are the additional Genesis exclusive levels!

Slicks is one of my favourite #Commodore64 racing games of all time by #Codemasters, but did you know that there were also conversions on the cards for #ZXSpectrum, #Amiga and #SEGA #MegaDrive? Unfortunately, all were never to see the light of day.

The iOS version of Saturn emulator Yaba Sanshiro got a couple improvements in an update last week — check it out:
If you attach Sonic 2 to the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on this unlocks "Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2", wherein the player can play the game using Knuckles and his abilities.
Using these special moves, Knuckles can explore areas inaccessible with Sonic or Tails, where secrets such as extra monitors have been added.
