(It has fallen over on when running Linux on my Chromebook however, but as that only has a 10Gb allocated for all my Linux apps, it's not entirely surprising.)

There are a lot of tutorials on shotcut on youtube, I'm not sure if it's eaiser to try to use the editing tools to remove part of the video (speaking pauses, space where nothing is happening) or to re-export the video at either a more advantageous compression if it can be found or just reduce the resolution which would probably be noticeably different.
