Andy Hort<p>The blackthorn is on full display. A good year for sloes?</p><p><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/BloomScrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BloomScrolling</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/blossom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blossom</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/blackthorn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blackthorn</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/sloe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sloe</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/spring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spring</span></a></p>
Carsten<p>We don't really have a tradition for <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/sloe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sloe</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/gin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gin</span></a> in Denmark, but the past two years I've been experimenting a bit with making it myself. It's super easy and a delicious treat just in time for Christmas.</p><p>In October you pick the sloe berries, then you freeze them for a couple of days. Add them to a jar with some gin - don't use shit gin, but you don't have to spend a lot either. </p><p>When Christmas is around the corner, you filter the by-now dark red gin from the berries using a cloth. Then you mix with a simple syrup to taste and bottle.</p><p>In my case I had 1.2 L of sloe gin after filtering, and I boiled 2½ dl sugar with 2½ dl water.</p><p>The end result is a strong, aromatic, ruby red gin with some sweetness to it. Enjoy it as is - as a kind of strong liqueur - or mix in drinks in place of regular gin. Your drinks will be pretty-pink and fragrant :)</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/homemade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homemade</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homebrewing</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/sloe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sloe</span></a></p>

Carsten<p>Just in time for Christmas, two bottles of home-made sloe gin. Still not sure what it's supposed to taste like, since it's not something we usually do in Denmark, but I will claim it a success if only because it's so darn pretty.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/homemade" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homemade</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/sloe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sloe</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/gin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gin</span></a></p>

Carsten<p>Sloe berries, not quite ripe yet. Something new to try this year perhaps. Will have to return in a months time and pick some.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/kastedmose" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>kastedmose</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/sloe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sloe</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/fruit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fruit</span></a></p>
