That would be a shame for the US, because consumers will have to pay more for electricity, the grid will be dirtier, and the country will fall farther behind China in the race to dominate solar panel sales. Currently China has cornered the market, producing 80% of panels globally. Trump cannot, however, stand in the way of the growth of solar world-wide. Let me explain why. "A bolder approach could let China phase down coal without causing power cuts, says Lauri Myllyvirta of the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (crea), a think-tank in Finland. It would need much more renewable power and big upgrades to China’s grid to let clean energy be transferred over long distances or stored (to offset for the fact it can be generated only when the sun shines or when the wind blows). China is already spending substantial amounts on trying to clean up. Clean-energy investments came to $940bn, or 10% of gdp, in 2024. In that year alone the country installed more solar-power capacity (277gw) than exists in the whole of the United States (200gw).

The bottleneck is that China lacks a flexible, nationwide power market that could ensure clean power is efficiently dispatched to where it is needed. At the moment most power is sold locally through long-term contracts, which typically favour coal-fired plants by guaranteeing the purchase of fixed amounts of power. Attempts to reform the system have been slow. In the last quarter of 2024 China’s wind and solar power use dropped in spite of favourable weather, as a result of an “oversupply” of coal-fired power, according to analysis by crea.

All this threatens to further entrench the role of coal in the power-generation system and will make it expensive to phase out, says Yan Qin of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. After all, the more plants that are built, the higher the cost of abandoning them."

TAYLOR “Well that’s the #EnergySystem. The energy system much of which is paid for by a combination of the #PrivateSector and #StateGovernments. The piece we will #finance, of course, is the #NuclearGenerators which will deliver a return and that’s how we have modelled it, James.”

We did this by switching to a smaller font size (similar to the one used in the comments book), by downsizing most images, and by opting for a two-column layout. We rewrote some articles, especially older ones, resulting not only in fewer pages but also in better articles.

As all our books, it's printed on demand, which means they is no overproduction.

We had an emergency last night while cooking with our induction hob, when our battery box nearly caught fire as the interlink cables' connectors overheated and melted their insulation and burned into the tops of a couple of the batteries (not through to the inside though). I disconnected the batteries before the nasty smoke could turn to outright flames.

We finished our cooking on a camp fire.

We now have some new copper welding cable lugs on the 2AWG cables and power is back on.

We need some #Mutualaid to keep us out of overdraft trouble.
