I paused a pretty forgettable episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and I was struck by just how cinematic and ON POINT 90s Trek was in just one frame.

Quark being roughed up on a pile of gold-pressed latnum.

It says everything you need to know about the character. It FILLS the screen. Nothing wasted. It's just so competently made.

I've been slowly rewatching #StarTrek #Enterprise as @GreatestTrek has been reviewing it, and while their reviews have been super entertaining as usual, it has firmly cemented Enterprise as my least favourite entry in the entire franchise.

Archer is such a bumbling idiot, that it begets belief that he would ever finish an academy, let alone become the captain of the first warp 5 vessel... But he WAS the son of someone important, so maybe not so unrealistic.

And then there's Trip, who is somehow a fan favourite? His good ol' boy mannerisms are just grating, and as they go so all in on them, that it's hard to ignore it.

I always took a bit of issue with Trek when it showed that it was made by Americans who couldn't think outside of their bubble, but Enterprise is flat out "murqans in space" that it's a lot harder to ignore.

Add to that, that it actually takes a step back, from previous shows, when it comes to representation, with the women and minorities becoming background characters, even if they are part of main cast. With the exception of T'Pol of course, who was meant to be the sexy main female character, but became much more because of Jolene Blalock's great performance.

That's not to say all of the show is bad, there's a good amount of good eps in there, especially towards the end, but this is the Trek that just bothers me the most.

Anyway, nerdy star trek rant over.

Just finished our rewatch of Star Trek TNG and my goodness does it have one of the best final episodes in a tv series ever! I did not remember it much at all and I definitely did not appreciate it as I do now.

Thank you Enterprise and crew, this was a great way to spend our evenings this winter to spring.

There will never have been a transformation in the Quadrant like the transformation that is happening, for all to see, in the Federation. Vorta specialists are taking Starfleet jobs at levels never seen before with Skills (and Latinum!) to follow. It's a beautiful thing to see! #StarTrek #SISKO197
