samf<p>Here's one for the <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/synth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>synth</span></a> nerds:</p><p>What's distinguishes a Keys patch from an Organ patch? I think Keys and Lead are obvious; Lead is usually monophonic, Keys polyphonic. But what about Organ? Maybe it's like Keys = fast attack, steep decay, while Organ = fast(ish) attack, gradual/no decay?</p>

Defiance!<p>Visitors - "Moth" (1979)</p><p>One of my favorite years for music. This is a band from Edinburgh, Scotland. </p><p>They only released three 7" EPs, but they were all great. John Peel was a fan. He apparently bankrolled the release of their second single. The band lasted only a year or two. I found this by way of a compilation released in 2016. </p><p>It's a really fun and unique mix of post-punk and synth-punk. I see the entire EP on on YT</p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/PostPunk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PostPunk</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/synth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>synth</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Scotland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Scotland</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY5lkuiZIpQ" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=GY5lkuiZIp</span><span class="invisible">Q</span></a></p>

iotar<p>As an experiment today I attempted to get the functionality of one 2600 VCO (all four waveforms simultaneously FMing all over the shop) plus filter and ring mod, and it was using about 44% of the Nord's resources, which suggests that it would be pushed to make it simulate a full 2600.</p><p>Sure, it does many other things better, and of course it is considerably smaller.</p><p>Might try a similar experiment with an Axoloti.<br><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/synth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>synth</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/nord" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nord</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/NordMicroModular" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NordMicroModular</span></a> #2600 <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/axoloti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>axoloti</span></a></p>
iotar<p>The second technical challenge of the day was getting this Livid Code into a usable state for the Nord Micro Modular.</p><p>The editor software is about ten years old,. The company shut down many years ago, and it wasn't still archived on their site. The company closed because the founder died of a rather unpleasant disease, so maybe longevity of legacy products wasn't at the forefront of his concerns.</p><p>Finally got those ccs updated, and I've now labelled the knobs for easy reference.<br><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/midi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>midi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/synth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>synth</span></a></p>
