On our first African safari, we weren’t sure what it meant for our lodging to be a ‘tent’. fiona and marcYeah, we have been in San Martin de los Andes for two days now 🤩 Fortunately, we didn't have to set up our tent in a roadside ditch among thorny plants. After about an hour of trying to hitch a ride (only about 5 cars passed by), a really nice farmer actually stopped and took us to San Martin de los Andes. It feels like we're in another world here. The lively tourist town by the lake, surrounded by green mountains, strongly reminds us of Grindelwald, Zermatt, or other tourist destinations in the Swiss Alps. We've enjoyed strolling through the shopping streets, sitting in a café, and even eating gluten-free pastries. We took advantage of a rainy day to weld—very professionally, with protective gear and specialized equipment 😅—a broken bottle holder (it broke on the rough gravel track) and to wash our tent. Now that we are finally out of the desert, the pampas, and the dusty areas, it was totally worth it to free the tent from all that dust and sand. 📸 nr.10 (last picture): Next to the Francisco Perito Moreno monument was our campspot for our first night in San Martin de los Andes. We reached the city with the kind farmer around 9:30 pm and had no daylight left to find a better spot. We decided on a joint tent early on, for convenience with cooking and eating, and because it would be lighter than two smaller ones. The Anjan 3 is quite roomy, has a tall ceiling for sitting, and is relatively light. We are very happy with it!The lightness comes, partially, from thinner materials. On our first night above the treeline, it was very windy, and the wind turned overnight to hit the tent sideways. While packing, we left the tent open, and it folded flat in a gust. One tent pole segment got bent severely. We could replace it with the one spare segment we had with us.We ordered new segments to be prepared for future accidents. Of course, we are also more careful in strong winds. The delivery of the spare segments was a hassle: we tried to get them sent to us, but ultimately could not wait for it. pandoraMy silicone treated tent is leaking at the seams after last night's high winds and deluvial rain. I've asked in all possible shops in Oban for Silnet or any other appropriate seam sealer. Unfortunately to no avail.
