Setting Vivaldi to "Use Native Window" (which requires a restart) gives the Settings dialog edges again , but the menu doesn't have edges. White on white.
Which is weird, and bad UI, but at least it's not something you need to grab to resize.

Hey "UX" designers; stop removing UI components that "clutter" the design or "waste space", they're there for a reason.
For example, here's Vivaldi's settings dialog. It's resizable if you grab the ~1 pixel at the edge. WHERE IS THE EDGE?
Remember when we had human interface guidelines, before mobile design made everything worse? Good times.

Grammarly Is Quietly Breaking Websites—Here’s How
Web developer Daniel Bushell discovered that the Grammarly browser extension injects global CSS into every website—even if it’s not actively being used.
What’s happening?
・It overwrites --rem on :root, breaking layout calculations
・It bypasses Content Security Policy via stealth styles
・It injects a <grammarly-desktop-integration> tag on every page
・It even loads 20 unnecessary font variants
Bushell’s fix? Renaming his variables to --.
This raises bigger questions about how browser extensions interact with the web—and the need for more respectful, sandboxed designs.
Hire Tom. Seriously. I'd love to work with him again if I had the chance. #FediHire #design #ux

Kate Green and Milo, formerly from US Digital Services, talk with Paris Marx about the destruction DOGE brought to USDS and about the amazing stuff USDS used to do. https://podcasts.apple.com/dk/podcast/tech-wont-save-us/id1507621076?i=1000701028227 Check out the new project they are working on at https://www.wethebuilders.org/, which gives me hope after my blood nearly reached boiling point listening to their terrible tales. Excellent interview. If you are mourning the loss of #18F or you are in favour of technology for everyone, do give this podcast a listen. #ux #a11y #AltUSDS #WeTheWorkers #TechWontSaveUs
Posts with content warnings and/or blurred media should be able to trend.
There are things that should reach people, but might be triggering to some, and the current setup incentivizes subjecting those individuals to harm in exchange for reach.
Do you agree?
As a… person who uses right-click "open in new tab" often,
I want… developers to finally learn the difference between a button and a link,
So that… I can stop hating on their interface.
how phishing etc. often plays on urgency to lower your defenses, remember to then also remind people that almost nothing is ever that urgent.
Above all, always remember that almost everybody is on a sliding scale of "out of their element" when using a computer. The most important ITSEC measure is helping people move that slider in the comfortable direction & the best way of doing that is helping people realize they're the masters of their machines & not the other way around.
Was laid off a month ago from my #accessibility lead position. I've only gotten one callback in that month so far. Trying #getfedihired (#fedihire ?) - been working fulltime in accessibility since 2016, experienced with cross-team collaborations, & had input on design systems and component libraries in addition. #UX is also something I'm familiar with, as that's the closest field aside from accessibility. I'm US based, speak EN but learning JP & beginning FR. Remote/ teletravail please!
I wish there was a modifier to Tab that you could hold to jump directly to the next text input, instead of the regular jump to the next interactable element.
The number of times I have to hit Tab multiple times to get across linkes or other stuff to get to what I actually want to do is too damned high.
I like the ideas of mapping different types of data to a calendar. Good visual thinking from Julian Lehr: https://julian.digital/2023/07/06/multi-layered-calendars/

How can it be that there are still no native quote reposts in Mastodon? I know it's somewhere on the roadmap, but I would have expected the priority for such an essential feature to be much higher.
This is hilarious. For years, people criticized PGP for its usability and security risks. And now, after a decade of UX design, Signal introduces usernames, without any visibility into who you're adding. What could possibly go wrong?
