Canadians Turn on Tesla, and It Becomes Physical

More than 80 Teslas were damaged in Hamilton, Ontario, the police said, amid other acts of #vandalism against the company owned by #ElonMusk.
nytimes.com/2025/03/20/world/c

"Elon Musk has said that “Canada is not a real country,” just one of his social media jabs at the #US neighbor.

But people in #Canada have done real damage to the vehicles and dealerships belonging to his electric car company, #Tesla"

Teslas hit with "Kraft cheese singles" was not on my #teslatakedown bingo card. Makes sense, though, because they stick to absolutely everything, are easy to cut into the shape of a swastika, and will pass as "food" if you are stopped by police.

Today in Labor History March 11, 1811: Luddites attacked looms near Nottingham, England, because automation was threatening their jobs. At the time, workers were suffering from high unemployment, declining wages, an “endless” war with France and food scarcity. On March 11, they smashed machines in Nottingham and demonstrated for job security and higher wages. The protests and property destruction spread across a 70-mile area of England, reaching Manchester. The government sent troops to protect the factories and made machine-breaking punishable by death.

Bizzare #vandalism - someone has taken the effort to climb a light column on #pedestrian refuge in middle of the village and obscure keep left #sign with grey paint (they have also done the same to smaller sign on the #bollard, can't be seen in photo due to darkness). Seems more sociopathic than normal #graffiti (maybe someone pissed off the refuge is there in first place, it discourages speeding through the village, or angry that the local Speedwatch have put up a camera nearby?) #Suffolk

‘I’m not Elon Musk’: Winnipeg man defends Cybertruck purchase despite backlash

"...A Winnipeg man says owning a Tesla Cybertruck has led to vandalism and death threats, as trade war tensions increase between Canada and the U.S... (owner) said he had to spend several hours to remove “LOSER” graffiti on his Cybertruck, told 680 CJOB’s Connecting Winnipeg that owning the vehicle doesn’t mean he agrees with what’s happening between the U.S. and Canada.... Some people are Ford guys, some people are Dodge guys, some people are Porsche guys … I’m a Tesla guy. ..."

Today in Labor History February 19, 1990: After a 10-month strike, rank-and-file miners at the Pittston Coal Co. ratified a new contract. Ninety-eight miners and a minister occupied a Pittston Coal plant in Carbo, Virginia, inaugurating the year-long strike. While a one-month Soviet coal strike dominated the U.S. media, the year-long Pittston strike received almost no media coverage in the U.S. The wildcat walkouts involved 40,000 miners in Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky. Over 2,000 people occupied Camp Solidarity. Miners and their families engaged in Civil Disobedience, pickets, work stoppages and sometimes sabotage, vandalism and violence. Over 4,000 were arrested.
