Marc Andreeson puts money into shady FinTech startups. Then, as Patrick Boyle explains, Marc goes on podcasts telling blatant lies about the regulatory bodies that exist to protect people from shady financial services. All to boost the short term value of his pump-and-dump "investments".
People might lose their live savings, but Marc walks away with a solid return. What a prize prick.

Last comment on this for 2024. I note that although other Matrix-based commercial hosts are now funding a lot more of the Matrix Foundation costs, the @element company still plays a outsized role in the development of the Matrix protocol. Especially on the funding side.
So I'd be interested to see a blog post from @matthew and the team on what they see their exit from VC looking like.

I moved to #Sunnyvale, California, in the mid-1990s. Sunnyvale is the geographic center of what was #SiliconValley.
As an electronic design engineer, I was at the most exciting place I could imagine. I was with my tribe.
Over the past two decades, corrupted by get-big-quick #VC business models and sloppy software-only development "products," Silicon Valley has a new ID: ugly "bros" whose only interests are control and money.
I recently moved away from the Valley. I find I don't miss it much.

I was just talking to a colleague about the AI bubble. These companies are in so deep they can't tell the truth. They are all lying about the efficacy, costs to consumers and most importantly how & when this tech works or doesn't.
Is there enough money on the line to kill over?
There's likely a trillion bucks of valuations across the industry. Billions in sunk costs, billions in c suite remuneration, billions in VC mgmt costs.
