The natural climate pattern La Niña started to make her presence felt last fall. Now, she's on her way out. According to a new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report, things have shifted into a "neutral" phase, which is forecast to last into at least early fall. Forecasters are predicting an active hurricane season and above average temperatures nearly everywhere in the U.S. aside from the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Northern Tier. Are weather models failing with climate change?

Simple observation in northern France, shows me that a lot of weather model forecasts of 1 to 3 days, are consistently underestimating temperature, generally by 1°c or 2°c and occasionally by as much as 4°c or 5°c.

Do any meteoroligists think the same?

My employer @dmidk will be moving buildings in November so the Danish Meteorological society is marking the more than 50 years we have been at Lyngbyvej at our summer meeting (organised by #DAMSdk chief @kristianpagh )
Amazing how the #WeatherForecast service has changed in this time.

The forecast warmth in #Greenland this week may start the melt season. This is defined as the first of 3 days where more than 5% of the #IceSheet has melt. We base our calculations on @dmidk's #WeatherForecast model.
Currently only around 2.5% of the ice sheet iss melting which is a little below average for the time of year but still well within normal range.

But an anecdote: I recently visited our friendly rivals at #TV2Vejret ( @tv2vejret ), they include an #Energy forecast as part of their TV #WeatherForecast and the webpage with expected #Electricity prices is now one of the most visited sites on the #danish web.

Because in #Denmark, #stormy weather is annoying but it also means #CheapEnergy...

We recently started to use an #electricity price app to time use of large appliances (oven, washing machine etc) + optimise charging of small things like mobiles when prices* are low.

The #power price in #Denmark is so tightly coupled to #WindEnergy that's it almost like another #WeatherForecast App #DMIdk

*Rule of thumb avoid using anything between 5 and 8pm and set the dishwasher to come on at 3am..
