New bird on the lake at work this morning (new to the lake, not to me).

A Comb-crested Jacana, walking on the water lilies.

A small bird with huge feet, walking on waterlilies. The bird has a red comb like crest, white face and rump, buff chest, black and brown upper/wings and a short tail. It has long legs, and very long toes to spread its weight.

Some of my regular birds at home this morning.

One of the pair of Pied Currawongs that get sultanas from the back veranda.

The female King Parrot, stopping by to see if I've put seed out (I had).

And a Lewin's Honeyeater, in the vines on the Cocos Palm about to check out the fruit (out of frame above it).

A mostly black bird with yellow eye and grey formidable beak, peeking out from behind the nearly vertical branch it is perched on.

A Lewin's Honeyeater, perched on some vines. It is mostly olive green, but with a dark almost black cap and beak, yellow lores and yellow crescent behind the ear, and a blue eye.

I went back this afternoon via the spot the tiny frogs were this morning and there were two out in the open.

So here's some more Tiny Frog Thursday for you.

A minuscule dwarf tree frog perched on a broad long blade of grass, as seen between several other blades of grass.

A tiny Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog perched on a blade of grass that is drooping down on the left of frame. It seem to just be enjoying the view.

It's Tiny Frog Thursday!

(ok I made that up, but it is Thursday and I did find a tiny frog).

Another (maybe the same one) Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog. Spotted this morning sunning itself on a broad blade of grass.

The third photo is an iPhone shot, and includes a tiny grasshopper for scale.

Side vie of the frog. It is mostly in the shade, with a patch of sun behind. It is green on top (including tops of its limbs) and yellow underneath, and includes a gold/dark stipe from the nose, through the eye and doesn its side to the belly.

Looking down at the top of the tiny frog, sitting with its legs tucked underneath it, on a blade of grass in the sun. From the top, it is pretty much the same colour as the grass and at first glance, could be a beetle.

Award for the best Side-Eye, goes to this little skink I found on the bottom step today.

A tiny lizard (a skink of some variety) on a wooden board (part of a bottom step on a flight of outside stairs).
It is approximately 9cm long (just short of 4 inches) and shades of brown in colour. It has a wide dark brown stripe down its side, edged by tan.

When I was leaving for work this morning, I noticed our regular Swamp Wallaby in the front yard (who had clearly noticed me too).

She has a joey in her pouch who's clearly getting fairly large.

A mother Swamp Wallaby with her ears back but alert, and mouth open mid-chew. A joey has its head and paws hanging out of her pouch. Both mother and joey are looking towards the camera.

Her fir is a russet colour on top, with visible black underneath. She has black ears, tipped with grey, a grey face, orange cheeks and white around her nose. The joey is similarly coloured, with darker patches around the eyes like it has gotten in to Mum's mascara.

My morning was improved one-hundred-fold by the discovery of this tiny Eastern Dwarf Treefrog on a citrus fruit.

It was no bigger than a beetle, and almost the same colour as the unripe fruit.

It seems like a great time to be a Red-browed Finch. Now the rain has passed seeds are showing up all over the place and water is plentiful.

Central in this shot is a small grey bird with a brilliant red stripe across his eye and red beak feeding on grass seeds. The bird has seeds stuck to its red beak. Went for a walk down the road this morning and found a male Satin Bowerbird, and a group of predictably raucous Rainbow Lorikeets.

A dark blue bird with a purple eye and ivory beak as seen from below, perched in a brightly lit tree. It has a very short tail compared with its body size.

Two Rainbow Lorikeets in a melaleuca tree. One is gripping the branch it is sitting on with its beak, the other is keeping an eye on me.

They are brightly coloured small parrots with red beaks, blue heads, green wings, red and orange chests, blue bellies and green and yellow rumps. The upper side of the tail feathers are mostly green, with the underside being mostly yellow.

The morning after the big winds from the ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, our regular King Parrots turned up for a rest and some seed in the relatively dry veranda.
They definitely looked a bit worse for wear, but they got a good feed and some shelter for a while.

An extremely wet and windswept King Parrot perched on the back of a chair. All his feathers look soaked and stick down or out to him at angles. He's nominally red on the head and body, but the white down can be seen underneath. His dark green wings are even darker on account of being so wet.

His mate, the female, is out of focus on the table eating seed.
