The employee base now consist of "Mullenweg’s strongest supporters, and people who couldn’t afford to risk leaving their jobs", neither of which will contradict #Mullenweg.

Apparently recently, Automattic has been adding watermarking to the background in internal communications systems. The result will be that those afraid of leaving will be even more compliant. What a work culture.

Grrr. #WordPress's atom_enclosure() isn't supplying a MIME type, even thought the library has one.

Would anyone be willing to give me some Wordpress advice? A guy *claiming* to be from Bluehost just called and said my hosted site has malware, then offered me $360/yr protection plan. Refused to say anything about where malware was located or how to fix. Jerk. Bluehost is too expensive already and I'm toying with just pulling the plug on my site altogether (it's not very popular), or maybe porting it over to the $4/month (?) version at wordpress.com. I'd be grateful for any tips on removing malware, finding cheaper host, and whether terminating a blog makes sense. #wordpress #malware #hosting #blog

Recap of CloudFest hackathon

When you hear ‘CloudFest’, many people associate it with a business-to-business event, which it is, but the hackathon in the run-up to it still has a certain degree of community character. On the initiative of Andreas Heigl (@heiglandreas@andreas.heigl.org) and the support of Matthias Pfefferle (@pfefferle), this year’s hackathon provided the resources and space for an exchange of ideas around ‘federated events’.

Our group was one of the largest and very diverse. We used the first day primarily to exchange ideas about our goals and the status quo. Afterwards, we reviewed and improved existing features and developed prototypes and concepts for new ones.

For me as a developer of the WordPress plugin Event Bridge For ActivityPub, the best thing about these days was to finally get to know the entire WordPress/Automattic team involved with ActivityPub in person (greetings to @mattwiebe and @obenland).

I would like to emphasise a few achievements in particular, without neglecting the achievements of all:

• Matthias Heigl took the time to take an intensive look at the FEP-8a8e. His many years of experience with the development of calendar features and iCal provided important suggestions for making the specification even more far-sighted.
• Laura (https://working-directory.com/) helped to reduce the barriers new developers face when experimenting with the interaction of Gancio/Mobilizon and WordPress and others.
• Finally, many thanks to Cloudfest for the great organisation and hosting!

Hmm maybe I will give one of the #WordPress static site generator plugins a try again

If I pull my site to my local machine and then generate a static version, I can put that up on a very cheap server and have basically limitless file space.

There's one plug-in I suspect will not cooperate though. I really like using the Geo Mashup plug-in and it would be sad to lose that.

Also how would commenting be impacted? Believe it or not, I find commenting to be a useful feature even in 2025

Among other things, this release brings more helpful details to Site Health and upgrades the Reply block—it now embeds the referenced post, even if oEmbed isn’t supported!

I've been trying to work ahead some... Like I usually try to do. But with the busy times ahead, surgeries for mum and me, health not being the best, Arwen not being the best... So it's good to have some posts scheduled, that when I don't feel like writing, I know something is still "ready to be shared".

The only posts that I can't write in advance are the journal ones...
