Astonishing day at the spycops public inquiry where the unit's manager in the 1980s, Tony Waite, has been giving evidence. Contradicting his contemporaries, Waite admits that the unit was misogynist & that many of them knew all about spycop Bob Lambert getting a woman pregnant while undercover.

Report from the end of the day by Tom Fowler & the Undercover Research Group's Donal O'Driscoll:

I tend to talk about #Indymedia in the past tense. Most of the international collaboration tools have been dead for over a decade (lists, chat, wiki, etc), as has Aotearoa Indymedia as a functioning IMC. So I guess that shapes my thinking.

But some of the sites linked from the static site at the old domain name are still in active use;

indymedia.org/

Not sure to what degree they still work together as a global network of IMCs, if at all.

Corporate capture of #media and targeting of #journalists has contributed to the #trust fails of the #FourthEstate. It’s taking people a long time to figure out the landscape has changed. There is no neutral point of view, there are only multiple views and people don’t know how to parse that. What’s the solution? I think it’s #generative trust building. #pointofview #impartiality #citizenjournalism #fifthestate #socialmedia #news #opensource #esport

@timbray seriously, this is an interesting phenomenon. and one thing it means, is that you often can follow up with the subject of a piece - they may not be overwhelmed with attention

So when its a subject that should be followed up on, I am hoping more citizen journalists do that and second-interview a bit later
