This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Metridiochoerus

In 1926, Arthur T. Hopwood named Metridiochoerus based on a very large lower jaw. The name means "Frightful pig" due to its considerably large size compared to modern swine.

Metridiochoerus was 1.5 meters in length and had 2 pairs of large tusks. As it evolved over time its teeth, especially its third molars became increasingly high-crowned.

(side note, its almost impossible to find details of the origins of the fossils online... sigh...)

This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil.

This one I would rate as medium. This mammal is known from Pliocene and Pleistocene of Africa

This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Utahraptor

In 1975, Jim Jensen found fragmentary remains near Dalton Wells Quarry, Utah.

In 1991, Jim Kirkland, Robert Gaston and Donald Burge uncovered even more remains.

In 1993, Jim Kirkland named the species Utahraptor ostrommaysi after the state it was found in, and John Ostrum, who investigated Deinonychus and its relationship to birds, and Chris Mays who helped research Utahraptor.

This week for #Fossilfriday we have another #Guess that #Lego #Fossil.

This one I would rate as easy. This large representative of its family is commonly thought to be the origins of a dinosaur in Jurassic Park, even though that's impossible.
