Wow, i'm just (i mean, for several long hours yesterday night) discovering that wonderful write up on cyberpunk:
"What Was Cyberpunk? In Memoriam: 1980-2020" by Moon https://forums.insertcredit.com/t/what-was-cyberpunk-in-memoriam-1980-2020/1721
And since I was a teen when shadowrun was published (in French), I literally grew with the genre. The original one, the one talked about in that marvelous article, with the best definition I read about it:
Cyberpunk is science fiction that imagines “late capitalism”
It also made me discover lots of wonders I missed then (I didn't speak English).
And so, well. Memories. And a bit of sadness that among all the deranged things about late capitalism, the one that we didn't get is the Awakening, but we got the Trumps in all variants.
