"...Black, Latino, and women service members were suddenly erased, from Sgt. William Carney, the first Black American to earn a #MedalofHonor during the #CivilWar... #JackieRobinson, World War II #TuskegeeAirmen, a decorated #JapaneseAmerican unit while Americans of Japanese descent were interned, and the famous #NavajoCodeTalkers, most of the erasure remains"

Erasure of history will eventually ask you to add it back, what a waste of life

@benroyce Having served in the military with distinction myself, I can say that the United States doesn't just hand out the #MedalofHonor For any reason other than extreme valor. DEI has absolutely nothing to do with it since inclusion is generally not ideal, particularly when one considers that many of the recipients are dead when it is awarded. But, at best, they're remembering the worst day of their lives. This is vile and goes against any concept of honor and decency I can think of...

#US #army Maj Gen #CharlesCalvinRogers

Received the highest #military decoration in the #USA, the #MedalofHonor

On Nov 1 1968, the #VietnamWar, despite a horrific injury, Rogers rallied his men in defense of their base and led the battalion until a major attack was repulsed

The #Trump regime removed him from the #DoD website

Not only is his page now 404, they changed the URL

The word "medal"

in the URL

for the bio of this exemplary man

was changed to

10/12/1945-Pfc. Desmond Doss became the first conscientious objector ever to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Doss, a 7th Day Adventist, enlisted in 1942 but refused to carry a rifle or train on Saturdays. On the island of Okinawa, under heavy Japanese fire, he saved the lives of 75 sick & wounded soldiers by lowering them, one by one, down a 400-foot cliff.

The guest house at Walter Reed Army Medical Center is Doss Memorial Hall in his honor.

At the same time, #Trump has repeatedly badmouthed the sacrifices of American #ServiceMembers. In 2015, he mocked the late Sen #JohnMcCain (R) for his time as a #POW, saying, “I like people who weren’t captured, & earlier this month said the civilian Presidential Medal of Freedom was “much better” than the #military #MedalOfHonor because those who received the latter were “either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead.”

@w7voa

Trump does not understand self-sacrifice. Trump considers any action taken that does not serve the self to be a waste of effort.

It's why he sees the Medal of Freedom as "actually much better" than the #MedalOfHonor. You don't have to risk any harm to yourself to get it.

It's the same reason that #Trump refers to those who serve in the military as "suckers" and "losers"

Trump sees serving the greater good as a stupid thing to do. In Trump's mind, being self-serving is a virtue.

"“For him to insult #MedalOfHonor recipients, just as he has previously attacked #GoldStar families, mocked #prisoners of war, and referred to those who lost their lives in service to our country as ‘suckers’ and ‘losers,’ should remind all #Americans that we owe it to our service members, our country, and our future to make sure #DonaldTrump is never our nation’s commander in chief again,” Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said."

Citation for his Medal of Honor says in part:

"Though assigned to duty as gunnery instructor and neither required nor expected to perform combat duty, Major Bong voluntarily and at his own urgent request engaged in repeated combat missions, including unusually hazardous sorties over Balikapan, Borneo, and in the Leyte area of the Philippines. His aggressiveness and daring resulted in his shooting down eight enemy airplanes during this period.
