For my next book, I've been researching where a #SecondWorldWar operation happened. The sources were unclear and often contradictory, but I've managed to get definitive locations.

This is the kind of research that I really enjoy - studying maps, satellite imagery, photos, and other sources to work out small but important (to me) details. And for extra geek points, I was able to add a few new features to @openstreetmap 😀

First flying on 27 November 1944, the Boeing XF8B was capable of acting as an interceptor, long-range escort fighter, dive-bomber, and torpedo bomber. Armament was to consist of six 0.50 inch machine guns or six 20 mm wing-mounted cannons, and a 6,400 lb (2,900 kg) bomb load or two 2,000 lb (900 kg) torpedoes.

Armament was to consist of six 0.50 inch machine guns or six 20 mm wing-mounted cannons, and a 6,400 lb (2,900 kg) bomb load or two 2,000 lb (900 kg) torpedoes. Three prototypes were built, the first two being evaluated by the US Navy and the third by the USAAF. The end of World War Two and the advent of the jet engine resulted in the project being cancelled.

"Combined Operations, 1940-1942", published in 1943 by the Ministry of Information. It's a 144 page official account of the Combined Operations Command between 1940 and 1942. It includes the raids on the Lofoten Islands, Vaagso, Bruneval, St. Nazaire and Dieppe.
