I love light gun games. Ever since first playing Duck Hunt in the 80s, and then House of the Dead. I boosted a video of a dude playing House of the Dead like a legend the other day, and @bgrier spotted this article about the guy- Eddie Esguerra - and the documentary made about him that recently showed at the San Diego Filipino Film Festival. https://www.timeextension.com/news/2025/01/face-it-youll-never-be-as-good-at-light-gun-games-as-this-dude
The 80's was a real hey-day for arcade games and many made there way to the handheld home market.
They ate up batteries like no ones business but addictive to play.
Which ones did you have/play

What happened to the American Arcade experience? Samey VR and brand deal rehashes. But over yonder things got interesting ....How about an arcade game that dispenses cards with barcodes so that you can always equip the items you earned each time you play?
#minecraftdungeons the arcade version uses this and boy howdy is it fun.
In far away lands this is one of many such arcade games. Here, we got at least this.

Something I never thought I'd see, an animated series for one of my favorite games, Golden Axe. And on.. Comedy Central? Intrigued and psyched to see this.

Took the kids to Melbourne Museum today to see 'Relics', a temporary exhibition depicting a post-apocalyptic world where LEGO minifigs have risen from the debris to craft new civilisations in discarded human artefacts.
I have to say that this repurposed old Space Invaders cab certainly caught my eye.
Don't think I've posted my home-made arcade machines on Mastodon yet, have I?

This is a collection of hundreds of PeerTube videos about gaming from classic computers and consoles, including the games themselves, the hardware, the culture, the history, repairs, customisation, mods and related topics.
Alongside the well-known stuff, the videos also cover a lot of rare and obscure things too.
I think this particularly true in gaming. When I think of '70s arcade culture, when I was 12-13, that's completely gone now.
And what's replaced it is this ultra-capitalism where games workers are routinely expected to overwork to levels that affect their mental and physical health.
The money in the biz has made crunch time and un-finished releases commonplace.

Oh man!!!! What a find! Dude's niece saw an OG #DiscsOfTron cabinet sitting on the curb. The garbage collecting service wouldn't take it because it's too big and not broken down, so it was spared. The niece came and told this dude and re and some friend rescued this very rare cabinet. I've only ever seen it once in the arcade back in the early 80's. #arcadegames #videogames #retrogaming https://arcadeblogger.com/2023/07/22/environmental-discs-of-tron-roadside-pickup/
