New blogpost: "Ofcom bans leasing of Global Titles and imposes broader requirements on non-leasing use of GTs"

This is a niche one even by my usual standards.

If you don’t know what a Global Title is, don't offer HLR lookups, and so on, you probably don’t need to worry about this.

The Telegraph · Russian cable attacks ‘threaten to cut off world’s internet’By James Warrington

@macrumors i filled out the form and asked Apple for sideloading and more openness. Its a shame Apple killed all innovative ideas by technical restrictions. Creatives and smart people spend more time trying to find workarounds, entitlements and fix codesigning hells (over and over). Innovation gets Killed. Im an #Apple developer since 1984. Developing innovative stuff in #networking and #telecoms including hardware became almost impossible in the last 15 years on Apple products. Just sad

Phewww, multiple fails!
Real #Cybersecurity to establish.
Need to understand, that #surveillance and #wiretapping is a heavy risk.
But #unpached systems connected to the Internet... ooof. 🔥🔥🔥

A day of #telephones - reconfigured #FreePBX #trunks that link on-premises #PBX with #cloud PBX to use #PJSIP rather than chan_sip - hopefully they will stay registered more reliably, repaired handset of desktop #VOIP phone with broken RJ9 socket using another harvested from defective analogue set (not prettiest repair, and I had to check the wiring colours as they are *different* between original and new socket), but it works #Repair #Maintenance #Telecoms

Select quotes from the updated YLE story:

"The cable rupture is more likely to be the result of an intentional act than an accident, Tapio Frantti, professor of cybersecurity at the University of Jyväskylä, told Yle."

...

"The Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo) told Yle on Monday afternoon that it was too early to assess the cause of the cable breakage.

...

"The most common cause of cable breakage is human activity, such as fishing or anchoring," a spokesperson said."

News · Telecoms cable break reported between Finland and GermanyAll telecommunications running on the submarine cable have been cut off. A cybersecurity expert tells Yle that the cable break is likely to be intentional.

A lie we've seen repeatedly from the telecoms' industry: they tell us they don't have the cash to splash on infrastructure, while dishing out large dividends to their shareholders. #telecoms #EU

New blogpost: "ND 1437: the 2014 UK call tracing standard that I hadn't heard about"

Okay, quite a niche one, but it might be of interest to UK telecoms operators / communications providers.

I had not heard of ND 1437 until the other day, let alone seen a request for call tracing under it. Here's what I've found out.

Perhaps some of you here are familiar with it?!
