Passages: Reflections on 2024
All years are passages between what was and what is yet to come. Usually, the transitions are subtle and incremental, hardly noticeable. But certain events signal a major crossing into something new. 2024 was one of those times, a bridge between distinct phases of my life. Balboa Park Arches

One morning in May I was visiting family in San Diego and woke up early. I decided to take a walk around Balboa Park before the crowds arrived. I started out early and only intended to spend an hour or two. As it turns out that hour or two turned into roughly 4 hours. This is one of the images I captured of the amazing architecture in the park.

Balboa Park Arches This is an image that was captured in Balboa Park in beautiful San Diego, California. This image is about perspective, repetition, and texture. The left side of the image has the first arch, showing the grit and texture of the finish on this building. The beige finish is showing a range of colors, assuming some degradation over the years. At the center of the image is the first full arch seen in this image. On both sides of the arch are yellow street lights spaced evenly between all of the arches. This pattern of arch and light repeat and look smaller in size as the eye is pulled down into the image.

Possibilities:

1. Still in the heavily rocky area, went scrambling/got lost in the maze/suffered heat illness and succumbed out of an area where a lot of people are.

2. Went walking towards Broken Arch, but took a wrong turn at 38.76660,-109.5814 and got lost to the east/northeast somewhere along a drainage. Likely ran out of water and is slumped under a shady tree.

I'll put my money on #2, took the wrong trail and he's within this vista. #SearchAndRescue #FranceUservoici #SAR #Arches #NPS

Suggested search areas from an armchair search and rescue guy. Probably in #2 or beyond #2 in the same direction down a drainage. Look under shady trees, and look for vultures.
