ZoomWelcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar. Now into the second year of genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and outrage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 48000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 20,000 children. We know these numbers are not accurate - thousands more are being found under the rubble and so many more will perish due to lack of treatment, medicine, food, water and shelter. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza threatening the fragile ceasefire agreement. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and B'Tselem have declared that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people of Gaza. We continue to come together as a political community in our daily half-hour to take action for the 15 months and going forward we will continue Monday through Thursday. Join us as we take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. All are welcome. All are needed.

A collective called Everyone Hates Elon has recently become an online sensation thanks to posters it plastered all over London of the world's richest man saluting while driving his "swasticar" with the words "Goes from 0 to 1939 in 3 seconds." @THR spoke to the group's anonymous spokespeople about what they're hoping to achieve.

Too many goddamn people I know: I'm scared and overwhelmed. I feel powerless. I wish there was something I could do.

Me: Start using Signal.

TMGPIK: I mean something that doesn't involve me changing habits.

I swear to FUCK, people!

Cruel and ineffective policies and the culture of inaction from neoliberal governments often leave people to fend for themselves.

#FluConf2025 has a dedicated track for Solidarity Networks and Community Health, through which we aim to promote bottom-up efforts to organize our own social safety nets.

We want to hear from people raising awareness about policy vacuums, building coalitions between adjacent camps, and working at the margins to address underserved demographics. Share your stories about public infrastructure, mutual aid, boycotts, unionization, strikes, legal defense, debt-forgiveness, and other forms of collective action.

How are you countering misinformation about public health topics? How do we build resilience in our communities and welcome newcomers? How can we take care of each other in the wake of wars, climate disasters, lgbtq persecution, and unnecessary poverty.

With the amount of time I spend reading Wikipedia articles, Anarcho-Syndicalism has caught my attention. I've come to see that it aligns with my views on decentralization, workers’ rights, no bosses, and no hierarchy telling anyone what to do. It’s all about workers organizing and managing things themselves.

Anarcho-syndicalism is built on three key ideas: solidarity, direct action, and self-management. It emphasizes workers standing together, taking action without relying on politicians, and running things collectively through democratic unions.

Rudolf Rocker, a major figure in this movement, dedicated his life to organizing workers and promoting these principles. He believed in solidarity across communities and showed how workers could take control of their own lives through collective action. He was also a member of the International Workers Association #IWAAIT iwa-ait.org

#Solarpunk started out as a speculative fiction genre. Now it informs #sustainable architecture and design

By Nicola Heath, April 6, 2024

"Solarpunk is a futurist movement that began in speculative fiction and sci-fi films and has since spread to architecture and design. Practitioners envision a clean and green future built on principles of #sustainability, #SocialJustice, and #CollectiveAction."

@pluralistic For those who like academic treatments, Mancur Olson developed the economic theory of collective action in the 1960s, with an essay and later book, "The Logic of Collective Action":

Also this from Kelly Haynes:

“Once we overcome the isolation and alienation that make collective action feel improbable in the first place, we will be positioned to fight for each other in a multitude of ways. What’s absolutely crucial is that we build bonds of solidarity now and cultivate the skills we will need to fight together.”

Would it surprise you if I told you that our supposedly "collective" resistance to addressing climate catastrophe is pretty much a bullshit propaganda narrative being deployed in the service of the capitalists who're murdering our biosphere and us with it? As a recent Global Climate Survey of 130,000 people in 125 countries reveals - the truth is people all around the world care just as much about dying on a boiling planet as you do:

anthropocenemagazine.org/2024/

This is one of those stories where I think the numbers speak for themselves, so let's just quote them:

"The survey revealed that worldwide, 86% of people believe that people in their country should try to fight global warming, and 89% believe that their government should do more on the issue.

What’s more, an estimated 69% of the global population is willing to contribute 1% of their household income to stop climate change, a figure roughly congruent with the estimated cost of effective climate action. The proportion of people willing to contribute 1% varies across countries, but is greater than half in 114 of 125 countries and greater than two-thirds in 81 of 125."

Of course, if you're asking me, I think we should skip the mass 1% of household income donations and wring the money necessary to solve these problems out of the rich people and corporations who are overwhelmingly responsible for global warming and our already-ongoing climate catastrophe. With that having been noted however, it's time to stop letting people with a vested interest in boiling the planet for profit (and the media outlets they own,) tell us that nothing can be done because folks just don't care about the impending heat-death of our shared habitat. They're lying to you, and everyday people all over the world are just as worried and determined to address the problem as you are.

The question that remains I guess is what are we going to do about it - because our leaders and the capitalists who buy and sell them every day, sure don't seem interested in helping us save the planet, and the human species that lives on it.

Anthropocene · You’re probably underestimating the willingness of your fellow citizens to act on climateThe world is in a state of pluralistic ignorance, a new international study finds. And dispelling the unfounded pessimism is a key to tackling climate change.
