Nachdem alle Teilnehmer*innen zu Kaffee & Brötchen angekommen sind, starten wir jetzt mit dem Programm und sind schon, welche Sessions vorgeschlagen & gewählt werden .

Here's my first contribution to the #30DayChartChallenge 2025. Horrifying statistics about misinformation! But also hot tips to cope!

Four in five of us (adults in Australia) reckon: "The spread of misinformation on social media needs to be addressed."

And that "People need to be taught how to identify misinformation."

So we're starting there! This is the SIFT method:

S: Stop. Don't read a post until you know where the info is coming from. And stop if you're overwhelmed.

I: Investigate the source. Maybe hover over their social media profile. See what Wikipedia says.

F: Find better coverage. Before sharing, check if other websites (reputable ones) say the same thing.

T: Trace claims, quotes, and media to the original context. Check the date. Try reverse image search to see where pics came from. Read full quotes, not just ragebait headlines.

Seven simple questions for #DecisionMakers:

How big? How much? How many?
Compared to what?
Why not a rate?
Per what? The diabolical denominator.
How were things defined, counted or measured?
What was taken into account (what was controlled for)?
What else should have been taken into account (controlled for)?

Alright, enough!

I keep seeing so many issues due to basic data misinterpretation, and I can't just sit by any more.

I always say that #DataLiteracy is key, so let me put my money where my mouth is. I'm going to start laying down some fundamental data literacy concepts that everyone needs to understand.

You might find this boring, but these concepts affect every aspect of your actual life, and your actual decisions!

I'm posting now to keep my word.
