I think Im about to step out of academic life now. Ofc its easier for me, Ive had my 20 years of study, lecturing, paper writing, app making and phd doing. I can step away, Im older, I can afford to. But Im not tired or bored, Im angry, appalled, Im not able to carry on because Im ethically so compromised. I just cannot be part of this charade for big tech extractive grifting anymore. Im with Miyazaki.

The map shows very clearly the scale of the industry of universities. Yes Walmart is massive but the amount of states/area covered by universities as lead employer is vast. When we think about edtech, and now AI apps sold as standard process for 'digital transformation', we can visualise the billions of dollars generated by this sales pitch. It just prints mountains of money.

The same #OpenSource principles that have led to successes across the #tech and #software industries, #edtech and #highereducation should be applied to #ArtificialIntelligence to ensure reproducibility in research initiatives as well as access and transparency in education.

Turning 80-ish (usa letter-sized) pages of reading into Google Slides so students can read more comfortably on their Chromebooks.

I really wish I could just use an HTML page, but last I looked Google Drive won't display HTML files as web pages.

I suppose I could make it 8.5x5.5 landscape PDF, but not sure how well that would work on their screens.

Any thoughts?

(Reading started in #TexLatex, so I can #pandoc it into just about anything.)

Starting an @apereo MicroConference with Sam Boysel on the #OpenSource Funding report (opensourcefundingsurvey2024.co) and heard Sam mention a "Software Bill of Labor" that documents the contributors to an #OSS project much like a Software Bill of Materials (#SBOM) documents technologies used in an open source project.

As projects are dependent on and thus vulnerable to labor, I thought this was insightful.
