I had 90 minutes connection time, which turned out to be plenty, but as usual, I was worried it wouldn’t be enough. The #Eurostar terminal is starting to show its age. Scruffy at the edges. (The one thing that I miss about the other place is following #EurostarJustin - I enjoyed his posts. Any equivalent on the fediverse?). Anyhow, we smashed our way through France. It’s a fair old dap… 9/n

#CrossChannelRail : Day 2, #Lille - #London - #York - #Harrogate

Thanks to #eurostar delay, no waiting in #KingsCross. Could check platform from #nationalRail live board, had QR code ready, the only thing was to jump above Mr FirstOut who had built a wall of suitcases at carriage door - then remember, twice to the right in #StPancras.

⏲️ 20 min delay "due to operational issues" in #Rotterdam

I have a 30-min connection between #StPancras and #KingsCross, could still work… Staff announced delay and went thru carriage, I could get a Railteam delay certificate (not sure it's valid for my #LNER train, but worked last time)

First time at the new UK terminal at Amsterdam Centraal. Nice waiting area with lots of sockets (including USB-A and -c). Quite crowded for a full train (probably more last-minute travellers today?), but should get bigger during the shutdowns over the next few months.

Why the hell is #Eurostar still the only one that does this route? This is 3 weeks ahead and there is only one train ticket available for this measly 2 hour trip, and that trip would cost me 160 EUR single-way? The absolute state of this

Back from FOSDEM in Brussels, and what an adventure it was! Tried to catch a train from Brussels-Luxembourg station to Brussels-Midi, but it was running 30 minutes late. No bother—opted for a rental bike instead. One of the perks of travelling with a backpack over a wheelie bag: you can cycle your way out of trouble! 🚴‍♂️

Then, my Eurostar got cancelled. They bumped me onto the next one, two hours later. The departure lounge was packed with FOSDEM folk, and the train itself felt like a moving afterparty—nerdy conversations galore! 🚄✨

Finally made it back to the UK: Underground to Paddington, GWR to Bristol Temple Meads, and a quick bike ride home to wrap it all up. Proper FOSDEM fringe experience, really.

I'm on my way to Brussels for FOSDEM at the weekend.

Last night’s hotel room in London has to be the smallest I’ve ever stayed in. That said, it wasn’t pricey, and it was conveniently close to St Pancras for catching the Eurostar to Brussels this morning.

Speaking of which, the Eurostar waiting area at St Pancras was surprisingly quiet when I arrived at 7:45.

As much as I appreciate the excellent food and service in the first class, I am (once again, sigh) very disappointed that #Eurostar is seemingly incapable of topping up on liquid soap in its on-board toilets. I tried two toilets soon after boarding in Paris and both had run out. I always have some hand disinfectant with me, but it’s really, really gross.

Something which annoys me somewhat is how London finds it impossible to do an international terminal which isn't a gaudy luxury shopping mall. Heathrow is full of tat shops, and St Pancras International is the same, with extra expensive eateries thrown in. #Eurostar travellers want good seating and affordable food & drink, that's it.

#Eurostar said it had updated its booking experience and cycling policy since the data was collected, and relaunched a service to buy last-minute fares at discounted prices. It said it did not provide automated refunds for delays because it wanted to let customers choose the type of compensation they received.

Planning a #CrossBorderRail trip and surprised by the Python-esque system for booking trains from #Wales to connect with #Eurostar.

Managed to get the perfect ticket from #Cardiff to #London - flexible to make sure I get a connection in the event of a delay.

It's called a #CIV ticket. You can't buy it online. It's not even (apparently) advertised by the #train companies. You have to go to a ticket office and act like some sort of secret agent.

This is madness. @jon @bestdeadends
