🪔 #FrescoFriday: A remarkable fresco cycle (late 1st c. BCE) from a columbarium near Rome's Porta Maggiore depicts Rome's foundation myths. Found in 1875, it belonged to T. Statilius Taurus, Augustus's associate. Scenes show the Trojan War, city foundations, and the Rhea Silvia narrative. 📸 me

🪔 For #FrescoFriday: Found in 1865 in columbarium 31 of the Ostiense necropolis, this 3rd-c. AD painting shows workers loading foodstuffs onto the Isis Geminiana, a riverboat. The scene features named figures like Farnaces (helmsman) & Abascantus (supervisor) and detailed depictions of ancient trade practices. The fresco now is part of the Gregoriano Profano Museum, Vatican. 📸 me

🪔 For #FrescoFriday: this is a brush-painted inscription on plaster, claiming Aurelia Cyriace's rights to the Insula Sertoriana, or part of it, following her father's donation. It includes flats, workshops, and space under the staircase. Dated to 2nd or 3rd c. AD, it was found at the Forum Boarium in Rome, and is now in Musei Vaticani. 📸 me

🪔 For #FrescoFriday: These frescoes come from the domus of Vigna Guidi, a luxurious house in Rome dating from the late Hadrianian period. It was partly destroyed and covered with earth during the construction of the Baths of Caracalla in 212 AD.
🪔 The Domus was discovered on the southeast side of the baths, at a depth of about 10 m, during excavations conducted between 1858 and 1869 by Giovan Battista Guidi in a vineyard owned by him at the time.
