I wonder how a society that remains incapable of emancipating itself from a deterministic view of human nature can ever come to grasp the roots of gender-based violence.

Genuine question for my fellow female-identifying Mastodonians navigating this late-capitalist era:
What is worse: a corporate charade that pays lip service to international women's day without any framework or system to uphold these values, or no charade at all?
#March8 seems to be the next big #protest day. Unless I'm snowed in, I'll be at #MonumentSquare in #PortlandMaine. I hope some folks will join me! Otherwise, it will be another #ProtestOfOne. But a protest of one is better than None!

In 1910 in Copenhagen, the 2nd International Conference of Socialist Women adopted the idea of an "International Women's Day" from a proposal by Clara Zetkin (German Social Democratic Party), although no date was set.
The "Journal du CNRS" notes that "Women's Day was therefore the initiative of the socialist movement and not of the feminist movement, which was very active at the time". The historian Françoise Picq adds that "it was precisely to counteract the influence of feminist groups on the women of the people that Clara Zetkin proposed this day", rejecting "the alliance with the 'feminists of the bourgeoisie'": https://lejournal.cnrs.fr/articles/journee-des-femmes-la-veritable-histoire-du-8-mars @histodons
For #March8, we've translated some of #Ocalan's analyses on women's issues.
"Becoming a Free Woman is a Matter of Dignity,"
including analysis about women's social contract and women's party.

On the occasion of #InternationalWomensDay, the #YPJ held a military ceremony
Newroz Ahmed (#SDF General Command) held a speech, saying: "Until there is a single women not free, none of us will be free."
Y si no puedes salir a la calle, si no puedes estar en redes, si estás agotada mentalmente, descansa.

my daughter asked me this morning if March 8 marks anything important, and I tried telling her it's int'l women's day, but she couldn't hear me over the babies crying and my older son playing a toy accordion, and I ended up yelling at her to shut the door on her way out #March8
“#JinJiyanAzadi has brought the spirit of the women’s #revolution to the women of the world (…) & has raised the belief that women have the power to intervene.“
"This year, we welcome the #March8 with grief. This #earthquake has revealed once again that the system acts only according to its own self interest. If the people do not create their own self-defense in all fields, then they will always remain under the rubble of the system."
