Why are #Starmer and #Reeves so poor at communicating what they are doing?

Does this press release do anything to encourage you to buy a new EV?

Or does it suggest some fudgy back pedalling is going on to give the ICE automotive industry longer to sell us petrol/diesel cars, because instead of saying they need to act now - tomorrow will do, hybrids will do and no sticks for industry.

So what will UK government response be to 10% across the board and 25% on automobile #tariffs?

Early indications are they’ll expect the UK to take the hit:

“We don’t want to be posturing here. The prize on offer is a good economic agreement between us and the United States. We are not going to do anything to put that in jeopardy,”

Says Rachel #Reeves. Ever heard a Chancellor more desperate to kiss a fascist leader’s ring?

And Keir ‘keep my powder dry’ #Starmer is against ‘kneejerking’.

All goods sold to the USA will be subject to a 10% increase in cost as of midnight tonight

#Reeves economy will be ruined

1,000s of people will lose their jobs

Starmer has been so desperately naive and owes the nation an apology tomorrow morning

#LeftFootForward | Why austerity is a political choice not an economic necessity

"Progressive taxation, equitable distribution of income and wealth did not get any mention in the Chancellor’s statement. No steps have been taken to reduce billions of subsidies handed to banks, oil, gas, auto, steel, internet and other companies. A relentless squeeze of the less well-off won’t help with rejuvenation of the economy. "

I am sure that misogyny is a problem - although ‘insider briefings’ Against prominent politicians are nothing new - Remember #Corbyn.

However comments aimed at these people must surely also have a basis in their positions and their behaviour? #Reeves on her misguided and incompetent approach to cutting benefits to apply a stick, both she and #Rayner (and of course #Starmer) on their blatant acceptance of bribes - whoops gifts.

The Guardian · ‘Cabinet no longer feels safe’: Labour MPs criticise briefings against female ministersBy Jessica Elgot

Politicians like to talk about the ‘optics’ - in this case it is reasonable to wonder whether Reeves has very very dark rose tinted spectacles.

‘Chancellor, who took family member to see Sabrina Carpenter at O2, says she understands public perceptions about politicians’ freebies’

It did not take Labour long to get their noses deep into the toughs.

Young people aged 14 would be allowed to work overnight during the school week in legislation championed by DeSantis

OK, child labour today, one assumes the resumption of (formal) slavery to follow. I suspect Florida has few chimneys that need cleaning, but with what DeSantis is doing with educations may mean that kids need to do something to occupy their time. Reeves are you watching for your next idea?

‘When pressed about the number of people that could fall into poverty, #Reeves said she’s "confident" the changes to the benefits package will get more people into work and "lift families out of poverty."

How does cutting Pip and freezing the health element of Universal Credit help get people into work? It’s penalising disabled people for being disabled.

Here’s an example from the #Guardian Live evening summary on the #SpringStatement:

“The #Labour party is the party” of work, #Reeves says. More than 1,000 people a day are qualifying for personal independence payments (Pip), Reeves says. “It is a waste of their potential and a waste of their futures.”

Hmmm…#Tories broke the #NHS and social care, and now Labour wonder why so many people need Pip…and if they take it away from them, that’ll get them into work. Completely unhinged and cruel.

Am I the only one to be questioning why Personal Independence Payments (Pip) are being cut with a #Labour assumption that this will force disabled people into work?

Pip is awarded regardless of whether you are in work or not…it’s about helping you to be independent in terms of washing yourself, cooking and getting about.

To conflate it with an unemployment benefit is as I understand it disingenuous.

Yet #Reeves argues this and the media parrots it.

by Ed Sykes in The Canary @thecanaryuk

“Instead of going down the path of increasing military spending, then, mass investment in public services and the planet would be a much better focus to have. But the corporate cronies in this gov’t seem much more interested in pleasing their wealthy donors than actually investing in a positive, hopeful future”

‘In the real world, mounting numbers of people are simply scared. Many are also baffled about why ministers are constantly averting their eyes from the human costs of their decisions.’

I am not baffled. It's always easier if you can ignore the consequences of your actions.
