@dankeykang FWIW, my understanding is, most people's #ADHD symptoms improve on #RightHormones, but it's not uncommon for it to go the other way, either. The only solid rule of thumb is, you might need your dose adjusted, upward or downward, when starting #HRT while you're on #ADHD medicine.

After all, Biology Is Messy, And Sometimes There's Exceptions. (Virtually every rule in biology has some, only those that come directly from physics, such as the laws of thermodynamics, being excepted.)

@dankeykang I hav had the opposite experience; #RightHormones has helped with my #ADHD

But there's multiple relevant pathways here, so it's to be expected that this is not a linear relation. For one, transfem HRT (particularly progestins) have a known tendency to also mess with prolactin, which, in broad terms, opposes dopamine action. When this happens in certain parts of the brain, it can make (some forms of) #ADHD worse.

@tillybridges: I started with self-medding, and went to a doctor fairly late in my transition, so I'll interpret your question as 'other than major medical sources'.

And, well, there's two main points: #RightHormones help mental health directly, notwithstanding their effect on one's body, and progesterone is far nicer than it's officially credited.

@evie: Important point: while cis people keep talking about what hormones do to a body, #RightHormones have a direct effect on the brain, and make it feel, and function, better than #WrongHormones do.

The catch for non-binary people is, while there's some rough understanding in modern sense as to what kind of hormonal levels and patterns binary people's brains feel best at, hormonal optimums for non-binary people are much less understood, so finding out can take more effort, trial, and error.
