You know what would make life better for everyone? If the British left Northern Ireland and returned it to be part of an independent whole country, all of which is in the EU. Then Hilary wouldn’t have to try and boss Ireland or the EU over tariffs. What would work well also would be the UK aligning themselves with the EU, rather than cowering in acquiescence before the toxic bullying of the USA.

Under the NI Protocol and under the Good Friday Agreement the ‘borders’ on the entire island of Ireland are at ports and airports. This should also apply to these new ETA. NI gets a lot of tourism revenue from coach and cruise liners who stop here for just a couple of days to visit key attractions. Then there are people who come to visit family and research their history and stay for varying lengths of time doing this. There are also international students attending University in Northern Ireland, and limiting them to the six counties of NI inhibits their education as well as their ability to attend events around the island. These ETA’s should only apply at the borders of the entire island. The economic damage implementation of these will do to the six counties is frightening to consider. Both the Irish and UK governments should press to change the planned implementation asap. #Think32 #NIPolitics #Ireland #UKPolitics #GFA

With an upcoming General Election in Ireland in a few weeks, I’m pleased to see Sinn Fein deciding to challenge the UK Government to provide details for a referendum on Irish Unity. I do suspect this is mentioned now, as a vote getter, given SF’s recent travails. All other Irish political parties should be getting behind this - but all parties have conveniently let Reunification slide down their ‘to do’ list.
