And that's another 818 words written!
This short story is quickly taking shape.
I won't get the chance to work on it tomorrow, but hopefully, I might on Saturday evening.
The latest episode of my fantasy #podcast is all about the Demon Temple that arises in the vast wilderness, one devoted to worshipping the foes of the gods in the heavens above. The horror is unbounded.

Deck Lights (also called prism lights, or deck prisms) were prisms of glass that were inserted into the deck of a ship, in order to provide lighting below.
They would be flat on top to be flush with the deck itself, but underneath, they were made to diffuse the light in multiple directions.
Since historical lighting often involved fire, having an alternative for wooden ships was important. ( 1/2)

#WritersofMastodon what are you working on?
I'm trying to edit a few chapters of my third epic YA Fantasy book on weekends. It's last in a trilogy, with multiple pov character's arcs needing tweaking and a few pov chapters needing switching to up tension. I also want to upgrade it with book 1 and 2's general beta reader feedback, before seeking beta readers.
Worldbuilding can be an important part of writing Fantasy, helping to add depth of backstory, assisting a reader to immerse themselves in the story. But dropping every bit of the worldbuilding you've done into the story will slow the narrative down, and turn it into a text book instead of a story.
So you leave a whole lot out.
'The World Below the War in the Heavens' podcast uses the worldbuilding I'm leaving out of a novel I'm writing. The latest episode is available wherever you get your podcasts or you can catch up with the dozens of past episodes here: https://theworldbelowthewarintheheavens.podbean.com
Can anyone recommend a fantasy book/series where the cosmogeny is important and described in the book?
(Cosmogeny meaning, the mythological explanation of the beginning of their species/universe.)
I think I have a cleanish draft of MUSE!
It has also gone from around 70k to 112k so that'll make that one person who wanted more words happy :D
Writing is inherently an egotistical act.
But what's the one reaction you wish you could get from readers?
I want people to highlight quotes and go "oh god this this this." I want to share the universal experience in a way that articulates feelings people can't always express.
(okay, and I want readers to give me lots of money for my stories.
1 is definitely easier than 2, hahaha.)
I did it! 50,278 words between 1 November and 27 November. The second time I’ve achieved #NaNoWriMo and I’m keen to continue and finish the draft of ‘What Hides in the Dark?’ #AmWriting #WritingFantasy #AmWinning
@fullhouselit I have 5,500 words left before I hit my #NaNoWriMo goal so that’s my focus. And then carrying on writing because I still have about 40,000 words left of the story. Thank goodness it’s a washout weather weekend! #AmWriting #WritingFantasy
Opened up the WiP I've been avoiding, and actually, i can work with this:
'The little long-jawed crocodiles, white as new snow, had come up out of the canals to snap at the dying things, and they watched Aisling pass, their amethyst eyes bright in the gloaming.
Boiling rain sluiced the blood from the streets, washing the detritus down into the storm drains.'
Hello #WritingCommunity!
Writing can be lonely and the path to publication rough, so what keeps you going?
Why do you write?
I'll start. My head is full of things and i need to make space for more things.
A snippet from last night's edits on AMPoL:
‘You must feel love like a tender wound.’ Ilea’s fingers pressed into his chest, pushing between softening bone until their hand was deep inside, holding his heart like a trapped starling, wings fluttering in a prison of fingers. ‘And you must never let it heal. With every breath, you must rip your heart open again.’
A #5ThingsWip for AMPoL:
1) The Actual Worst sibling relationship, - can they work out how to be human before they kill each other?
2) A manipulative ex who can change their face and has zero issues about murdering to get what they want
3) Princes of hell, chaos magic, old dark gods
4) A somewhat cannibalistic queer love story?
5) Bringing people back from the dead is a bad idea mmmkay
Thinking about what I need to do today for the current WiP.
This is a revision run-through with some restructuring and new scenes. For reasons known only to myself, I want to add in some other characters. Normally I cut characters, but the current lot feel too isolated within the world.
*flexes fingers*
Right, what are your goals today?

This program is actually made for #DnD, but is actually incredibly helpful for planning and sorting world building notes for books. You can link items, locations, characters, and more, to scenes so that you have everything you need on hand while writing.
