The only reason people are willing to make sacrifices to do this are because of dramatic pictures of cute animals.

It has _absolutely_ nothing to do with good #environmental #policy.

Durable plastic bags still produce #microplastics. Canvas bags use truly stunning amounts of water.

The actual truth is that single use #plastics are often _orders of magnitude_ more #environmentally friendly than durable alternatives.

For example, if you are hosting a party and want to know reduce your environmental impact, a hundred #SoloCups are _massively_ better for the environment than a hundred ceramic cups - unless you are hosting parties weekly.

#VoxPolitical | We’ve been told lies about #ThamesWater’s profits – and the cost of cleaning the #sewage

💧 Their operating profit margin is a staggeringly-high 35 per cent. There is no reason for Thames Water to be in danger of insolvency.
💧 Every single penny they have made in #profit has been paid out to #shareholders in #dividends.
💧 Water companies are #environmentally #insolvent.

Up until now #deepsea mining has been for the most part either conjecture or small scale, now #Norway is working to open a massive area around #Svalbard in the Artic (over which it claims territorial rights) to sea bed mining;-

even the country's own Environmental Agency objects to these plans, so we may be about to see quite how #green Norway really is?

It may have its sovereign wealth fund disinvesting from #fossilfuels but its difficult to present ocean bed mining as #environmentally good!

At the centre of it all is the farmers. #Cocoa farmers are often older, busy people (cocoa farming alone is rarely enough to pay the bills), and have to make careful decisions about yield versus labour and other inputs. We're discussing the priorities, and what areas farmers feel warrant research and training focus.

Ultimately, what we are hoping is to identify a route to #environmentally and economically #sustainable cocoa #pollination.
