Protestors from #Assemble have today stopped proceedings in the #HouseOfLords. They are an organisation that:

‘campaigns for the House of Lords to be abolished and replaced by a citizens’ assembly.

Citizens’ assemblies are selected by sortition, which means members of the public are picked at random via a lottery.

Supporters of this mechanism argue it means a more representative sample of the population are able to come together and debate important issues.’

The Home of Lords, replacing (partial) autocrats with appointed ones. They are more interested in how they can subvert British political processes to earn money than Britain (or the rest of the world)

The Guardian · Foreign states including repressive regimes pay peers over £3m in two yearsBy Rob Evans

Starmer might have thought while in opposition it was a good idea to reform/abolsh the House of Lords (although I am not convinced) , but now in government he realises how useful it is - as a gift to retired MPs and donors who will be in his debt.

The Guardian · Exposed: Labour peer’s involvement in apparent cash-for-access ventureBy Henry Dyer

As Labour's plans for the House of Lords start to become firmer (lowered age limit, from the manifesto, plus other measures to reduce the size of the House, including a one in/two out policy for party nominations), here's my thoughts from last year on what a real reform of the second chamber could look like....

I was interested to see the statement 'On this trajectory, the SNP will return with fury in 2029 and win a clear mandate for a second referendum. '

Not if Westminster gets a say! But his pinning of Starmer and the 'Labour Establishment's' two arsed faceness is bang on. And this in The Times as well! The union is still living on borrowed time.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water

Remove #hereditary peers YES
Remove former #PrimeMinister's cronies YES
Remove religious leaders MAYBE

But, a #bicameral #parliament needs a TRUE #Senate; a house of wise elders:

Two #elected chambers fight each other along #partyPolitical lines — #logicalReasoning / #criticalThinking is the casualty — everyone pays the price

Argue with me 🙂
