Yep, the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will probably still drift because Nintendo isn't using Hall effect sensors. So, if you were thinking about upgrading, it might make more sense to swap out the joysticks in your current Joy-Cons. It's easier than you might think—and a lot more affordable.

This #WITDay, we're celebrating Martine Postma. She's the activist and former journalist who started the Repair Café movement.
“I wanted to do more than just write about it,” Postma says. “More and more people don’t feel good about our throw-away society and are ready for change. [They] don’t throw away because they want to, but because they don’t know what else to do.”

A few days ago home internet started acting funny.
At first I blamed my ISP, than #PiHole that runs on my #RaspberryPi, but none turned out to be the reason. The reason was this UPS that powers my main WiFi router base.
When I pulled the plug out of the UPS I found a cable in quite a miserable state as you can see.
Having examined further I found that a small zener diode got shorted.
Replaced it with the one with a higher voltage rating and it's back to work as expected.

This Global #Recycling Day, let’s talk about our favorite way to reduce waste: repair!
Recycling is inefficient, complex, and time consuming. It should be the very last step in a long line of alternatives. While Reduce and Reuse are the best options, we think the missing R is Repair.
Here's why: https://www.ifixit.com/Right-to-Repair/Recycling

We. Love. Modular. Ports.
Did you know that MacBooks have modular USB-C ports? All that Thunderbolt speed goes straight through a small press connector. Impressive!
Better yet, if you break a port, your expensive logic board's safe and sound.
Why doesn't every laptop do this?!

The adult version of the kids’ game, Operation, where you remove “organs” from a patient is the game of smartphone repair.
I just replaced the battery on an old iPhone 7. I probably spent half my time just trying to seat the microscopic screws so I could put them back in.
Also at that size a Y000 screw is almost indistinguishable from a PH000 screw. The Y has a 3-way pattern and the PH is the Philips 4-way pattern. They both look just like dots to the naked eye.
Getting the case open and getting the screws back in was the hardest part of doing my own battery replacement.
Update. "Years of hard work have made it possible for us to celebrate the #RightToRepair movement time and time again. It's a group effort —folks like #iFixit, who provide repair guides and repairability scores; the #RepairAssociation, who’ve helped lead the movement in state legislatures; and of course, people like you who contact local representatives, are the reason this movement has gained so much momentum."

Well electric cars, hell, cars in general these days come with proprietary software that totally screws over the buyer's ability to fix their own damn car. It's bullshit, plain and simple.
Right to repair isn't just some fancy slogan, it's a fucking right. Period. I'm all in on open source software and the freedom to dig into the code, learn from it, and yeah, fix it if I need to. That's how it should be, not this locked-down crap they're pushing on us.
Sadly, this is the world most people are forced into with big tech companies owning and operating most of the software we and many companies use today.
I would recommend anyone reading this to give #Linux a try if you haven't already used it. It's open-source, customizable, and gives you the freedom to really make your system your own.
In short: I love the right to repair my own tech!
#Framework #Desktop wows #iFixit – even with the soldered #RAM
The main bugbear is the soldered-down memory, rather than the slot-in memory modules that allow most PCs to be upgraded to a higher capacity if required. The reason for this design choice is that Framework went with #AMD's #Ryzen AI Max processors, which feature an integrated #Radeon 8060S #GPU and need to have the #LPDDR5x memory closely coupled to enable the 256 GBps memory bandwidth for high performance.

#Repairability and intercompatibility are crucial!
Every year, Clara Gregori donates old laptops, tablets, and phones to Por Una Sonrisa en Africa, a Senegalese charity that supports small local projects.
With some upgrades and know-how, these laptops help local students build better lives.
