"U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, or USCIS, which oversees naturalization and immigration, earlier this month proposed requesting social media names from people in the U.S. who apply for asylum, permanent residency, or naturalization, expanding a policy that used to only target people living abroad applying for visas.

The proposal references Trump’s day-one executive order laying the groundwork for a new Muslim travel ban, which also asked federal agencies to identify immigrants in the U.S. who hold “hostile attitudes” toward the government.

The shift would affect an estimated 3.5 million people per year — some of whom have lived in the U.S. for decades."

#Trump suggested that he could soon take executive action to end #SanctuaryCities, which generally are described as areas that limit cooperation w/ #ICE.

“We’re gonna end sanctuary cities for some of these jurisdictions that aren’t cooperating with law enforcement,” Trump said.

Trump didn’t provide details, but he has spent years criticizing Democrat-led jurisdictions for failing to impose harder-line #immigration policies.

The lawsuit, filed in US District Court in Massachusetts, takes a broader approach than a flurry of other recent lawsuits challenging the federal govt’s #deportation policies on college campuses. Those suits, including 2 involving a #ColumbiaUniversity student & a recent grad who are #GreenCard holders, aim to stop individual deportation proceedings.

The lawsuit filed Tues challenges the #Trump admin’s overall approach to deportation, saying it is #unconstitutional.
