"Wicked" costume designer Paul Tazewell is the first Black man to win an Oscar in this category. He told the press:

“This is the pinnacle of my career. I've been doing costumes for over 35 years. The whole way through there was never a Black male designer that I saw that I could follow, that I could see as inspiration. To realize that that's actually me, it became a 'Wizard of Oz' moment, there's no place like home. To come back to the inspiration being inside of me is really remarkable.”

I have just learned that there is a song in the musical "Wicked" the lyrics of which [heh] are
STUDENTS:
O hallowed halls and vine-draped walls
The proudliest sight there is
(Male: Sight there is)
When grey and sere our hair hath turned
We shall still revere the lessons learned
(Females)In our days at dear old Shiz
(Males: dear old Shiz)
Our days at dear old
GALINDA:
Oh-oh-oh-oh-ol
STUDENTS AND GALINDA:
Dear old Shiz-zzzz

Ariana Grande lobbied for her role as Glinda in "Wicked" for a decade. The producer, Marc Platt, and director, Jon Chu, were unsure — and with good reason, since Grande's only real acting experience was as a Nickelodeon star. @THR talked to her about her music career, the casting process for "Wicked," and how much she and co-star Cynthia Erivo cried on the last day of shooting.

The Hollywood Reporter · The Second Coming of Ariana GrandeBy Lacey Rose

'The Substance' was outstanding, and Demi Moore's performance as Elisabeth was heartbreaking and chilling. From her speech alone it's clear that the film and its core themes meant a lot to her on a personal level, as a woman and as an actor. It's good to see her break out of the boxes that the industry tried to put her in, though she has certainly shown her range in the past, the recognition she gets is much deserved.

That said, it's always a bit weird seeing horror films being classified as musicals or comedies in order to be eligible for awards. Jordan Peele's 'Get Out' had multiple nominations as a comedy a few years ago as well. It's an odd practice that highlights Hollywood's refusal to treat horror as a legitimate genre, while simultaneously leading to actual comedies or musicals being sidelined too.

Cynthia Erivo was brilliant in 'Wicked', her performance was full of heart, not to mention how she mastered belting those notes while flying and flipping upside down. She deserved that recognition on her own merit. Not saying that everyone should somehow win, but these two films, and these two women, shouldn't really have to compete against each other.

CNN · Demi Moore wins her first award for acting: ‘I’m just in shock right now’By Lisa Respers France

Well, Wicked most definitely deserved the hype! One of the best musical to film adaptations I've seen. The Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth cameo scene was a really nice addition, very sweet and quite fitting. Ariana Grande was a revelation, both her singing and comedic timing were phenomenal, but it's really Cynthia Erivo who absolutely stole the show. Such a powerhouse performance, that final scene blew me away and gave me goosebumps. Cannot wait for part 2 to arrive later this year!
