On #WorldBackupDay recall the year (2011-ish) missing from our 2006–2025 archive of @accordionnoir radio episodes at AccordionNoir.org
🪗

A change in our radio station’s podcast system meant we saved effort, and thought it was making backup copies for us, but we didn’t check — for a year 😳

So who has copies of the All-#Tuba episode of our #Accordion show, and the rest of that year? Not us 😩

Here’s the lost Tuba-Noir promo — check your backups

@iFixit You are doing a disservice to celebrate #worldbackupday

I declare today #worldrestoreday, a day to restore an old #minecraft world from last year's backup! Make sure restore actually works.

Here's the script for today:

Find your _printed_ restore instructions and key.

With extra computer or fresh VM, install minecraft.

On the VM: go to your backup software and restore the wold.

(No cheating: you can't look for passwords or notes on the main machine!)

Play a bit to see it works!

Today is World Backup day. And well, to many of us, #Minecraft worlds, especially our first ones, are special.

They can be a real time capsule for future us. So please, make sure your Minecraft worlds (and not only!) are properly backed up, check if you can recover from the backup, make sure you have multiple copies, including at least one off-site. :blobfoxwinkmlem:

💾 It’s World Backup Day!

Quick reminder: Computers crash. Files get deleted. Hard drives fail. But backups? They save the day.

If you haven’t backed up your important data recently, today’s the day to do it! Open-source tools like XWiki make it easy to keep your documents secure and accessible—without vendor lock-in.

🔄 When was the last time you backed up your files? If you can’t remember, it’s time to do it now! Future you will thank you!

On #WorldBackupDay, a reminder of the 3-2-1 Rule:

  • 3 copies of each file exist, as a minimum
  • 2 copies are on physically different storage media
  • 1 copy is on a storage medium that is physically located “elsewhere”

As an absolute minimum, suggest the following to people without appropriate protection:

  • Get 2 external disks
  • Make regular backups on one of them, while the other remains stored “elsewhere”, with someone trustworthy
  • Have the two disks swap places regularly

Strictly speaking, the “1” of the 3-2-1 rule is only maintained if you take the disk that has just been used for the backup to “elsewhere”, and return with the other one (not the other way round).

Happy #WorldBackupDay 💾🔒

Your data is one of your most precious assets—are you sure it’s protected? What would happen if you lost it due to accidental deletion, hardware failure, or a cyberattack?

Regular backups are essential to protect yourself and your organisation from data loss and data theft.
