If only there were some example of how well government back doors work for security technology...

"The Clipper chip was a chipset that was developed and promoted by the United States National Security Agency (NSA) as an encryption device that secured 'voice and data messages' with a built-in backdoor that was intended to 'allow Federal, State, and local law enforcement officials the ability to decode intercepted voice and data transmissions.' It was intended to be adopted by telecommunications companies for voice transmission. Introduced in 1993, it was entirely defunct by 1996."

Well then, let me give a tip of the hat to another splendid European app @Tutanota The team behind this one is doing a bang-up job, and they deserve a pat on the back. I've personally given their email app a whirl, and they've got a calendar app too. It's the perfect blend of usability, privacy, and security, all without costing an arm and a leg. Absolutely top-notch, and I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a go.

Especially the App lounge is a gem ... because its the first app store I know, that gives from the start information about the data security of apps.
There is a point rating where 10/10 is the best possible.

Whenever I am going to use a new app, I first check this rating - even if I am going to use FDroid for downloading.

Great help to get degoogled.

Global #politics being what they are I really try to think of people as being completely distinct from their governments and the actions of their governments and make my decisions based solely on behavior. The same can be said for companies but, when we are dealing with something as sensitive as #datasecurity in today's world I do tend to ere on the side of caution. I really prefer my tech to come from the #EU when possible.

"Grief apps" such as Untangle, DayNew and Empathy supposedly offer bereavement support. Features include virtual support groups and forums, administrative checklists; some have AI components such as advice from chatbots and personalized to-do lists. "It's optimized healing," Karine Nissim, co-founder of DayNew told @BBCNews.

But mourning is messy and doesn't fall neatly on a timeline. Writer Lindsay Lee Wallace talked to privacy experts who also point out the risks of sharing deeply personal data — at your most vulnerable moment. Murat Kantarcioglu, a professor at the University of Texas told Lee Wallace, "I would never use this."

Of public interest:

At least 15,000 people fully, without limits, irrevocably, licensed their personal information, public image, name and all data that reached loops.video infrastructure... to
@dansup@mastodon.social 's loops.video platform.

Had they known they're entirely losing control of everything, would they be using the platform?

Explanation in the renote, and here:

Is this what we, as a
