Great exhibition on Colour and the Victorians at the #Ashmolean in Oxford. Who knew that the origin of the #RSPB was a backlash against the use of hummingbirds to create jewellery and accessories?
For #StandingStoneSunday, a snap I took recently of a #Viking #Runestone in the #Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
It dates from c.1100 and commemorates Vikings who died in the Byzantine Empire. The inscription reads:
"Thorsteinn had the landmark made in memory of Sveinn, his father, and in memory of Thórir, his brother. They were abroad in Greece. And in memory of Ingithóra, his mother. Œpir carved."
It came from a church in Eds, near Stockholm, and was donated by Charles XI of #Sweden in 1687.
