A council of crows convened on the tree in the neighbor's yard.
From the remaining branches of a tree, they had a lively discussion
A contractor had pruned many of the majestic branches
and left these branches of the tree in a pile
A crow spoke up, declaring what has happened here was no accident
The other crows continued to echo this call for action
This tree has weathered great storms of our many generations
This tree has protected and provided us with many fruits
The branches removed can never been replaced
In these uncertain times
What happened to this tree shall be remembered
A garrison of mosquitoes has been activated
And some are already on patrol
We must remain vigilant and protect those who have protected us

Many birds are known to use human-made elements in their nests, but Carrion Crows and Eurasian Magpies are apparently stealing and repurposing "anti-bird spikes" as a nest-building material.
My partner has a #CorvusCabal warband for #warcry, which I painted for her. I kinda wanted to enter this one into #goldendemon this year, but this one doesn't have any basing and I'd need to fix some things. Still a cool though!
a few more from the winter darkness before we step into the light of spring
Just discovered that we have a pair of crows nesting way, way up in the oak tree in front of my house. There have been crows around here for years, but last summer I saw a few alight atop my fig tree, then continue up to the oak, and wondered what was up. Only recently did I notice their super big nest hiding in the dark upper reaches of the tree. They’re very quiet, stealthy even. It was seeing them regularly out on the phone wires that finally tipped me off.

Came down to help my parents out a bit. They’ve both got something with a dry cough and aches.
This sculpture has changed logs at least once. This one has some nice moss and lichen going.
And the same picture I've been taking for the past two weeks. (the same as above, but zoomed)
It's so depressing to see. And that they did it today, right when the nest was completed.
I don't know if you can see on the picture below but Ms Crow is in the nest. I don't know if she's about to lay eggs, if she has done it (I hope she hadn't yet). I'll know more about that later.
Nothing. Giving work to do to municipal employees to justify their salary, that's literally and unironically the only explanation I can find. So they cut some branches of that tree, and then, as I was very afraid of they moved on to the crows' tree!!!
Nest Update. Day 13. Wow, they did a great job today despite some light rain! It could be finished soon.
BTW, yesterday some people commented shocked that the nest incorporated plastic. So, worry not, it is normal, it is safe, and it is a good thing. The crows know what they're doing, it's a common thing in Japan (even a proof of different cultures, carrion crows in Europe don't do it, I think). It makes the nest much sturdier than just wood.
