I just joined #HopeNotHate. hopenothate.org.uk/ Seeing what's going on in the US and Germany right now, we're at a relatively fortunate point in our electoral cycle that we've got about 4 years before Reform gets another crack at it. We need to be providing some alternative to everything getting steadily worse and blaming immigrants, trans & disabled people. We need to be putting a stop to fuckery like this theguardian.com/politics/2025/?

Very lame turnout by the far-right protesters in #Newcastle today. Police kept them confined to the Bigg Market (which despite its name is a much smaller open space than at Monument, which is where demonstrations and rallies usually happen in Newcastle.) Meanwhile hundreds of anti-fascist counter protests gathered on Newgate Street. No trouble at either demo apparently. #HopeNotHate

U.K. anti fascist group Hope Not Hate has supplied a dossier to the police which we believe identifies the main instigator of the riots in Merseyside, who compiled the list of far right protests tonight, including the one in Walthamstow, London in the photo in the above post. He has also called for the assassination of Nick Lowles, leader of Hope Not Hate, and the U.K. Home Secretary.

More details to follow.

About 800 counter protestors have gathered on Westgate Road in #Newcastle, outside the offices of lawyers believed to be set to be target of far right protesters. No sign of the fash yet, according to local reporter on scene.

There are several potential "targets" on Westgate Road though, including a mosque, Hindu and Sikh temples and lots of Asian-owned shops and busineses. Lots of shops have boarded up their windows.

I'm going to challenge this line of thinking.

Millions have been seriously hurt by 14 years of #ToryAusterity (or longer nroliberalism). That may be a source of pain, but IMO it is *not* the cause of the violence.

IMO, the violence is caused by rightwing hatemongering towards immigrants accelerated by years of #Tory normalisation of violence (eg "go home" vans, Royal Navy patrolling the channel, Rwanda policy, etc). Also, a bit of anger over GE loss
