So I should re #introduce myself; used to host my own instance at artemai when that was a thing; decided to get back on Mastodon again because the rest of social is a dumpsterfire.

I'm a #UNIX sysadm originally (from the late 90s) but started using #Linux 🐧 in 91, bringing early ☎️ dialup internet to #Newcastle with community group hunter #apana.

I'm a #coder, #python 🐍 is the go-to language these days, some #js but plenty of #C and some #golang too.

Ten years ago I landed in #liveevents and #visionswitch / 📹 #camera #direct #sports presentation in major 🏟️ #stadiums along with building software for data-driven #content for use in those environments.

I'm a #ham 📻 radio operator. Callsign VK2WAY. I'm mostly interested in signals processing and digital communications.

I used to officiate 🛼#RollerDerby but have streamed it since 2014 as Downunder Derby TV. I still manage socials for and help co-ordinate Queer Roller Derby - @queerderby.

RELEASE: Greater Northshore and MEGAMAP Bike Maps version 1.5.1 - 8 March 2025

Additions and changes this release:

* WATERFRONT TRAIL now open in Downtown Seattle. This is a small section opening, but it is an important connection

* HONEY DEW CREEK TRAIL in Newcastle/Renton. Turns out it's a popular paved shortcut

* Better road name markings a few places

* Warnings on 15th Avenue S bike lanes which are now _closed_ now 'til spring

Former #Democrat favoring towns of #WhiteWorkingClass #Voters flipped en masse for promises of glorious #Trumponomics in 2024.

In #NewCastle PA where the last #GOP President they voted in was #Eisenhower, the low-income voter base majority pinned hopes on #DJT, praying he goes after immigrants, but doesn’t slash their #welfare benefits.

The chances their political shift will personally payoff are slim, and few seem to think they have much to lose by abandoning #Democrats, as the political party’s promises to help white people like themselves began to ring hollow.

New Castle was a bastion for Democratic votes up until this year. But in larger Lawrence County, the shift toward the GOP has been ongoing. White, working class Americans were increasingly drawn to Republican candidates, in part because of their messaging on security and immigration. According to Census data, White residents make up three-fourths of New Castle’s population, while Black residents account for 10 percent. The population also includes 10 percent of residents who identify as mixed race and 5 percent who are Hispanic.
City Administrator Chris Frye, a Republican and former mayor of New Castle, said he expects GOP leaders will push for some changes to how federal programs are administered. But Frye urged his party to show “empathy” when it comes to determining the actual benefits that people receive. “I think it would be stupid to just take something away,” Frye said. “We would have mass chaos. Mass homelessness ... so nationally, I don’t think it is going to be a situation where they are taking away from people.” Detractors worry that New Castle residents will come to regret their decisions to vote GOP.
