"Yesterday, an #ethics complaint was filed with the #Wisconsin Ethics Commission against Building America’s Future, a #political organization backed by #ElonMusk. The complaint alleges that the organization failed to disclose its express advocacy spending, which is in violation of Wisconsin #law."
#PoliticalDonations should be allowed *ONLY* from *individual* *citizens* of the country the politician is competing in (*no* companies, #corporations or #politicalactioncommittees should be able to contribute or #influence ). Donations from each individual should be capped to prevent the #superwealthy and #billionaires from having undue influence.
Anything else is a threat to #democracy.

Uno podría decir que #CostaRica y #Argentina se adelantaron eligiendo demagogos populistas como presidentes antes que los EEUU, pues normalmente van en la cola. En México todavía está por verse qué senda va a tomar eso. De El Salvador mejor ni hablemos. Hay otras elecciones, y otros populistas, en la fila en Latinoamérica.
En Europa, #Francia y #Alemania están dando signos de ir por ese rumbo, y Alemania en particular tendrá elecciones adelantadas a inicios del próximo año. Sin un liderazgo como el de Merkel que se opuso a Trump, y Francia siendo incapaz de llenar ese vacío, Trump puede ocasionar estragos a nivel mundial.
Acá en Costa Rica ya prácticamente estamos otra vez en elecciones, y las cosas se perfilan mal. La gente no votará otra vez por el #PAC, no porque lo hayan hecho particularmente mal, sino porque les dijeron que el PAC ya no existe y eso se cimentó como verdad. Del #PLN no se puede esperar nada (los "liderazgos" jóvenes son neoconservadores, en algunos aspectos peor que los viejos). El #PLP no tiene nada que mostrar (la agenda que propusieron era mayormente legislativa, y ahí han hecho exactamente nada, a menos que salga el borracho necio hablando de que eliminaron aranceles a la cerveza importada). El rechazo genético de los ticos al #FA sigue ahí instalado (en las municipales perdió escandalosamente en cantones donde debió ganar con facilidad)…
Eso nos deja con una colección de partidos que han hecho del odio, en muchas variantes, su bandera oficial y a como pintan las cosas globalmente, parecen tener algún chance de ganar. Tal vez lo que nos salve es que todavía falta un poco más de un año y eso nos permita ver a dónde lleva ese camino.

The U.S. Justice Department sent a letter to Elon Musk’s America PAC warning the political action committee that its $1 million sweepstakes for registered voters in swing states could break a federal law against paying people to vote, CNN reports. In the contest, a person from a swing state who is registered to vote and signs a petition supporting First and Second Amendment rights will be randomly selected as the winner.
“We are aware of nothing like this in modern political history,” the letter says of #ElonMusk’s offers. “We urge you to investigate whether America #PAC’s payments are prohibited payments for voter registration. We recognize that they are framed as payments for signing a petition, or for referring voters who sign. But many of the payments are restricted to registered voters, so anyone who wishes to get paid must first register.”
