so did i get this right:?
the main thingy is mastodon
the protocols are open
there is more (like friendica, diaspora, ...?)
my instances server fetches all that stuff from all the other instances (over time)?
so can mastodon users see my screaming into the void (i understand @endless screaming now)?
or can i just see their posts and interact with them, as my instance crawls anything available?
are there cutoffs / limits / if not shown after timeout never seen?
is there a way to get back to the post i tried to comment on which disapeas after i am finished typing (as coming from facebook i alsways type in an external editor, then paste, not to provide biometric typing data)...
aaand: i create my bubble over time by using #tags? or by the tags defined in my profile? or both? or is there anyhow some kind of algorithm filtering and selecting what to show (feels mind blowingly open but somehow lonely the same time)?
do i need followers or friends for it "to be like at ..."?
will somepwny even read or answer this?

Where should we put feature requests and how does the community help prioritize them?
I use Pixelix on Android to access Pixelfed.

Personally, I'm after:
1. Exclusion filters (initially based on #tags and partial title & description string matching/synonyms) but eventually AI image analysis. - see also 3.
2. Markdown support for description field
3. Better supported categorization (probably using existing #tag capabilities but more guided UX) so that categories can be more easily included or excluded (graphic art, art photos, reportage, politics, memes, architecture, microscopy, astronomy, etc)
4. Ability to 'like' and 'comment on' individual photos in collections as well as the collection itself.

Should I direct these requests at Pixelix or Pixelfed?

Here's my #unofFicial track for the

How to be a good Fedizen:

1. CW to hide things people may not want to see. This is considerate.

2. #tags allow for discovery for those who may want to see content. Helpful for those who may not follow you but are interested. They will also help people who filter those same tags for reasons.

3. Avoid deliberately misspelling things so that they don’t bypass people’s filters. i.e., don’t use asterisks or jokey nicknames for offensive people or topics.

I don't need CW; I'm finding filters sufficient.

It's a tough question. I strongly agree that engaging with the world we find ourselves in is our shared responsibility.

And yet: offensiveness is subjective. Why is it *obviously* appropriate to CW sex and violence, topics that not everyone wants or needs a warning for?

There's a difference between offense and damage. Framing the question as preferences, or what might offend, makes it easier to ignore the people who say lack of CW harms them. Just as framing masking as a courtesy makes it easier to ignore the folks who say your exhalations might kill them.

When someone says "I need X to protect myself," a reply that sounds like "Y is perfectly adequate.. you shouldn't need X," strikes me as all kinds of wrong. It smacks of "Well, why don't you just.."

I expect I'll be inconsistent about my use of CW vs. tags. But I'm not going to be offended by being asked (either generally or directly) to put some stuff behind CWs.

@SheDrivesMobility Nun, vielleicht macht die Person was falsch. 🤷‍♀️ Ich finde hier zu jeden Thema, was mich interessiert, interessante Diskussionen und Gesprächspartner. Dazu kommt noch:

* Dezentrale Organisation
* Unkommerziell, keine Werbung
* Die Möglichkeit, #Tags folgen zu können
* Kein Zwangsalgorithmus
* Und man kann Tippfehler nachträglich korrigieren. ☺️

@KronoMoonPhotos is updating our #hashtags. Our 2 main #tags are now #KronoMoonWatch & #MoonOverMastodon.
Our mission remains the same, to boost, share & retoot your #photos of the #Moon.

In 2025 we need to be more diligent about retooting & commenting on the copyrighted works of #Mastodon #photogs. It helps us if our #FotoFriends either #follow this acct, or use these tags. In all cases, we will remove any toot asap if requested by the #photog. Out of hundreds of boosts, there has been only one such request. We removed the toot immediately, with no hard feelings. (And that #photog will always be welcome to share their images again with @KronoMoonPhotos).

Here's an #iconic #KronoMoonWatch #photo from #genius Georges Méliès's 1902 film, 'Le Voyage dans La Lune'.

#MuseumEducators are a bit thin on the ground in the Fediverse and I'd really like to collect some more!

So do you work in a #museum, #gallery, #archive, #library or other #heritage sector organisation in a role which focuses on #learning and #education? Please say hi, especially if you're in the UK!

If not, do you know anybody who does? Please introduce us!

If neither of the above fit then a boost would still be very much appreciated.

Note: When I post things like this I tend to get helpful replies about following #tags: I know this, and I do! I'm looking for people rather than posts: there aren't many of either and the relevant #tags are just so much tumbleweed so far. There _must_ be museum educators out there somewhere (but they're not posting about museum education things because they haven't found anyone else who cares...): I'm trying to build that community.

Not in any of the #tags but am in 1 that you didn't: #CHOWG - cis, het, old, white guy! And I don't care to spend my time talking with … cis, het, old, white guys either! In that, you are not alone.

BUT … there are xmission modes that do not require speaking -- Morse is an obvious one, but also a bus-load of digital modes … Contesting & DXing, even on 'phone, is usually all business & not a lot of chit-chat.

Get the license first (assuming USA) & worry about the rest later.
