Tracking link for the Northern Traverse is now open. Race starts 08:30 Saturday UK time. I’m bib number 73. Watch out for Damian Hall (bib 76) who is aiming to break the course record. Conditions look great but cold at nights. Excited and nervous in equal parts. Nowhere to hide now so I just need to deliver a finish, probably some time next Wednesday. #ultrarunning #ultramarathon #running #NorthernTraverse live.opentracking.co.uk/northe

I just finished reading Aurélien Sanchez's after race report on his Barkley Marathons finish in 2023.
What a great story! Well narrated, it brings the reader completely in the Barkley's atmosphere. (Or what I could imagine it is, as I have never experienced this first hand).

Highly recommended!

This is Paul Youd, an 87 year old vegan ultra-runner that I had the honour of documenting his latest ultra-marathon adventure, 50km around the city of Bath!

You read that right, 87 years old, VEGAN and smashing ultras!

He was supported by @runningonplants and their team and everyone made it to the finish line, inspired by Paul and his story! Make sure to check out their wonderful organisation.

A film will be in the works of this adventure to watch at www.youtube.com/@kelpandfern in the coming weeks and you'll learn more about Paul and why he went vegan and how he got in to running later on in life.

Stories like this are supported by members and small donations from people like you and I am proud that Kelp and Fern is not sponsored or supported by brands which means that I can document stories exactly like this, which otherwise wouldn't happen.

Please consider supporting at ko-fi.com/kelpandfern on Patreon.com/kelpandfern or becoming a member on the Youtube channel.

✅ Wayout Backyard Ultra | 20 hours | 134K

Most of you already know by now; I had a wonderful (trail) backyard race. It started Friday at 20:00 where it was dark. Then we ran through the night and morning. And a bit more. I stopped after 20 hours with good legs and good mood. TBH: I was just very tired and mentally I didn’t have the attitude to keep on. Family time called 😆(and food/sleep).

Unbeaten social event: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Trail run | 450m EG | 90 minutes

Before attending a family birthday I took the car to the neighbor city: Vejle. Where the EG is hiding. So I ran around there for like 90 minutes. Found out that a trail run race was organized there … race flags and runners all over the forest. So I had to be a bit creative to get around where they were having fun.

It was a very nice experience 👌🏻🤩. Always love running there.

For the introverts among us.

❝I think there are more people who like the sport because they’re alone, but we’re not the people who loudly tell everybody, ‘I LOVE THIS SPORT BECAUSE I’M ALONE. ALL THE TIME!’

@teufen Similar to the “Equinox Adventure Ultra” in East Sweden.

“This adventure begins with runners being blindfolded upon arrival and transported by bus to a secret location.

Once there, they are given a map and must use their navigational skills to determine their location and find their way back to the finish line. The race features two classes: the short course, requiring a minimum of 50 km of running, and the long course, with a minimum distance of 100 km. Success in this race relies not only on stamina but also on the ability to adapt to the unknown and work as a team.”

It hurts to walk now, but I ran my first 50mi race.
Did the MUC (Marin Ultra Challenge). It was an ideal day for running, foggy in the morning, then sunny and not too hot. The climb out of the Willow Camp aid station sucked, as did the one out of Muir Woods. The nicest section was from Tennessee Valley to Muir Beach. So pretty. And 10,500 vertical feet is a lot to do in one day.
Finished in 9:49.
