TUTORIAL - PASSO A PASSO Instalação do Pop!_OS
Neste vídeo, vou mostrar, passo a passo, como instalar o sistema operacional Pop!_OS.
Every panel applet on #Cosmic takes about 33 MB of RAM each, resulting to Cosmic using 2.4 GB of RAM on a cold boot. That is excessive for a brand new, "clean" DE, and on par with #Windows (that has a history of 40 years that needs to carry with it).
I honestly don't understand why it's like that. Most people try #Linux on their older PCs, or a main PC that isn't #Windows11 -capable. Cosmic is just out of their reach for many of potential new users.
I spent Christmas day changing and upgrading my operating system, as you do.
Just bought a 1 TB SSD to put 6 OSes on my #Thinkpad: Debian-Testing (#Gnome / #XFce), #Mint, #ElementaryOS, #POP_OS alpha, #Kubuntu or #Fedora KDE (haven't decided which one of the two), and if it works with it, #Haiku.
I'd normally install #FreeBSD too, but I don't see it working as well as a desktop.
I'll be booting them with #rEFInd instead of #grub (easier than dealing with its rather deprecated os-prober).
Here's an unexpected pleasant surprise - #Spotify is working on the #RaspberryPi500 with the unofficial Spot client from flathub! This is the first time I've gotten Spotify to work on arm64 on a non-Android/Roku Linux machine.
On August 23rd the #Outlook app for #Android stopped working on my phone (#Pixel8Pro). No new #mail would be received, and I couldn't figure out how or why.
#K9 (and later #Thunderbird) worked just fine on my phone and could receive mail perfectly.
I liked Outlook because my #calendar was right there in the same app as my #Email.
Well, I found out what happened.
#Microsoft surreptitiously migrated the #IMAP account I had configured on Outlook over to an #Exchange account stored on Microsoft's servers.
Microsoft literally, without my authorization or knowledge copied all my mail from my device and my credentials up to their servers so their #Exchange servers could (attempt to) get my mail and store it on their servers.
I am beyond pissed and I am beyond livid.
This is #ClassAction level type bullshit but there's probably some #ForcedArbitration clause I agreed to when I upgraded to #24H2 or something.
God damn fucking Microsoft.
And they are pulling this same shit with the new #PWA #Windows11 Mail app they're shoving down everyone's throats on Windows 11, too.
The scary thing is, from both a #privacy and #legal standpoint, is that this now makes Microsoft the #custodian of your Email. Which means Microsoft could receive a #subpoena for your Email and you won't even know about it to challenge the subpoena's legality.
#E-discovery just got a whole lot easier and nicer for lawyers and the DOJ.
Fucking bullshit.
If it weren't for the fact that some of the apps I use on a daily basis require Windows I'd dump this shit like a hot potato and go back to using #FreeBSD.
I miss FreeBSD.
God I miss FreeBSD.(No I'm not switching any time soon. I can't, and I'm not going to debate the merits of either Linux or FreeBSD with anyone. Of course I can use Wine. But Wine isn't fully compatible with this one particular software package I've been using for the past 20 years.)
Update: Maybe I might be able to switch. But unfortunately not to FreeBSD. Researching. Will probably go with #LinuxMint. I like #Pop_OS but I don't like the fact that it wastes so much screen real-estate. But that's on my laptop. I have a much bigger monitor on my desk. Thinking.....
Long time KDE Plasma user here getting ready to try Pop!_OS for the first time. Downloading the ISO now...

Having finished some small projects in #Godot is giving me the motivation to search for jobs in #GameDev as a programmer.
I've been thinking that maybe I'm not as rusty as I thought I was, and the only thing I needed to do was to sit down and program stuff to regain confidence in myself.
Family is gonna be happy seeing me working again too. They have felt my low self for too long too.
PLEASE do not leave out the underscore (or the exclamation point, but really the underscore) in Pop!_OS.
I'm encountering a strange issue on my System76 Pangolin under PopOS where the trackpad is spontaneously disabled.
I've tried `modprobe -r psmouse && modprobe psmouse` as suggested by a few reddit posts and checked that it's not disabled by hotkey or in the UEFI.
Has anyone else encountered (and recovered from) this? It's happened in the past, but it's never consistent, and usually comes back after a few hours if I switch it off (no luck this time though).
@Melissabeartrix @jackyan @stevendbrewer OFC there are countless options.
Were it not for your mother but like a child, I'd consider pointing at #RaspberryPiOS or for gamers to #pop_OS, for some really old machine I'd point at #BunsenLabsLinux and #TinyCore or for some "Guest Computer" I'd recommend #PorteusKiosk...
But my priorities may not he yours so it's good to have options on the table.
blog! “Review: Framework 16 Laptop”
★★★★⯪
Several years ago, I purchased a Clevo N151CU laptop with the idea that I'd gradually upgrade the RAM, storage, and other bits. After my keyboard failed, I found it difficult to find replacement parts. The whole point of the Framework laptop is that it is specifically designed to be modular. It come in kit form, […]

@peterainbow @luana officially, Valve only supports Ubuntu LTS with the Linux Version of Steam, so things should still work most of the time but this ain't guaranteed...
As for gaming in general, you may want to take a close look at @system76 's #pop_os which makes it even easier to get started, since it's an unofficial mod of #Ubuntu...
I'd recommend to give it a try and see how it works for you...
It'll certainly work better than being stuck on #Windows10 that I'm convinced of...
@nixCraft This may or may not be of help to others but when I installed #Pop_OS on my iMac, all worked OK until it came to online videos, then it all went pear shaped... Until I realised they provided an Nvidia specific .iso installer. Reinstalled with the Nvidia .iso version and it just worked. I don't known if other distros provide their own version but thought I'd mention it. FYI Ubuntu 22.04LTS worked first time with no need for a specific .iso installer version (on my iMac anyway).
@aral vast bulk of funding goes to server #linux kernel features, which is why the kernel is incredibly robust compared to in particular OSX's kernel. Right now, for example, #Pop_OS is building their new #Cosmic desktop/compositor, with a team of 7 developers. MS, Apple, Google field 10s of thousands, and can assign any group of them to any feature, that's their job.
I'd say if you interact with Linux, desktops, compositors, tools, and go YES!, it's for you. If not, maybe not best fit.
