🎬 PS: For a beautifully clear (and delightfully mind-bending!) explanation of what might have existed before the Big Bang, check out PBS Space Time’s fantastic episode, "What Happened Before the Big Bang?" hosted by astrophysicist Matt O’Dowd. Highly recommended as a thoughtful companion to this thread! 🌌🌀✨

www.pbs.orgPBS Space Time | What Happened Before the Big Bang? | Season 5 | Episode 29We actually have a pretty good idea of what might have happened before the Big Bang.

A rare cosmic phenomenon called an #Einstein ring.

There are two galaxies, separated by a large distance. The foreground galaxy is at the center, while the background galaxy appears to be wrapped around the closer galaxy, forming a ring.

The light from the more distant object is bent about a massive intermediate object because #spacetime, the fabric of the #Universe itself, is bent by mass, and therefore light travelling through #space and #time is bent as well.

2/2…or #Spacetime if you prefer. Unfortunately they look different and possibly are from somewhere else. Also interestingly they seem to be becoming less and less reticent about demonstrating those performance capabilities to our latest detection technologies. At this point the evidence is hard to ignore. We probably don’t need a new accelerator. All of the challenges in this current situation encompass our inability to get over ourselves, literally.

❛❛ Unlike a #BlackHole — a region of #SpaceTime from which you cannot escape if you get too close — a #Wormhole is a region into which you would disappear only to reappear #elsewhere or #elsewhen. ❜❜ 2001 May 20 #WaPo

The black hole information paradox has puzzled physicists for decades.

New research shows how quantum connections in #spacetime itself may resolve the #paradox, and in the process leave behind a subtle signature in gravitational waves.

Th7s menas that spacetime around black holes would carry tiny little perturbations that aren't entirely random; instead, the variations would be correlated with the #information inside the black hole.

🔊📼 On Sat Sept 14th 2024, my album „ji kū kan“ will be released with #CallItAnythingRecords (thanks @QBRNTHSS) in this beautiful tape edition. Its hand-made and limited to only 42 pieces. It comes with an analog animation of waves in #spacetime…any orders will receive a personal hug from me ☺️.

All tracks are based purely on #GravitationalWaves from @LIGO/VIRGO/GEO600(@mpi_grav). Using #livecoding, I create an experimental soundscape that will stretch and squeeze #spacetime + your body.

The vast #galaxy cluster SDSS J1226+2152 in the constellation Coma Berenices is distorting the images of distant background #galaxies into streaks and smears of light in this image from the #JWST.

This is a spectacular example of gravitational lensing, a phenomenon which occurs when a massive celestial object such as a galaxy cluster deforms #spacetime and causes the path of light from more distant galaxies to be deflected.
