An interdisciplinary team of researchers has proposed nothing less than a new law of #nature, according to which the #complexity of entities in the #universe increases over time with an inexorability comparable to the second law of #thermodynamics — the law that dictates an inevitable rise in entropy, a measure of disorder.

A rare cosmic phenomenon called an #Einstein ring.

There are two galaxies, separated by a large distance. The foreground galaxy is at the center, while the background galaxy appears to be wrapped around the closer galaxy, forming a ring. 

The light from the more distant object is bent about a massive intermediate object because #spacetime, the fabric of the #Universe itself, is bent by mass, and therefore light travelling through #space and #time is bent as well.

Back in 1915, Einstein put forth his most ambitious idea: the general theory of relativity, combining #gravity with #relativity to create an entirely new conception of our #Universe.

In most conventional circumstances, the predictions of Einstein’s theory are indistinguishable from that of its predecessor: Newton’s law of universal gravitation.

The Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635) is a stunning, 7-light-year-wide bubble formed by a massive star 7,100 light-years away in Cassiopeia. The star’s winds blow gas at over 6.4 million km/h, creating this cosmic shape. The nebula's bright colors are from oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen gases. Discovered in 1787, it's one of the most fascinating objects in space.
