I think it's time for a re-introduction!

Hello fediverse! I am an admin for Veganism.Social, VoIP engineer, sim-racer with @ethixracing, gamer, foodie, and long-time ethical vegan. I'm originally from South Florida, but now living in the Orlando area as of 2020. I'm usually not a very social person, but I'm trying to change that! I want to make a difference in the world, and one person cannot do that alone, so connecting with others is essential.

My political and ethical views are all centered around equality, compassion, and environmental protection. I am anti-capitalist, but I also understand that it's impossible in the current state of society to avoid participating in it. So I try to make the best decisions I can with the options given to me in order to minimize the harm it causes.

Humans and animals all over the world are facing troubling times, and thinking about it has taken a massive toll on my mental health. Now, I am trying to focus my efforts on things that I can change, rather than spreading myself too thin and not helping at all. This doesn't mean I'm ignoring all of the other suffering, but simply trying to prioritize based on what is within my reach.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and if you feel like we have something in common, give a follow! I look forward to meeting like-minded individuals and organizations that seek to make the world a better place!

For a bit more info about myself and my sim-racing efforts, check out this interview I did with @veganeasy last year.

It’s official: The #Olympic #Esports Games will be held in 2025 in Saudi Arabia.

But the ‘first person shooter’ games are not welcome.

“So called “killer games” which promote violence or discrimination cannot be brought into accordance with the “Olympic values” and therefore should not be recognized by the Olympics…”

The ConversationIt’s official: The Olympic Esports Games will be held in 2025. Here’s everything you need to knowThe International Olympic Committee (IOC) has endorsed the creation of the Olympic Esports Games, an important chapter for both Olympic sport and video games.

A pioneering effort that allowed a paralyzed teenager to play pinball led to today’s vibrant community of esports players with disabilities. And in fact, the world of esports has long been inclusive -- with a lot of accessibility progress over the last 40 years.

I'd take this further, perhaps because I'm rubbish at enjoying watching sports for the sake if sports, and want everything to be as close to a real life contest/fight/challenge as it can be, with real life implications.

Probably takes place as a hackathon. Let's say it's hosted by a healthcare provider, but subsequent games could be hosted by a quadcopter manufacturer, or a warehouse management firm, or the Ministry of Defence, or anyone really. The organisers have forty or so 'simple' problems that need a software solution. Explanations of relevant inputs, outputs, constraints, strategic/tactical/operational requirements are presented for each problem. Each problem has, also visible to the teams, a points-modifier depending on how hard it is, and how valuable a solution for it is to the hackathon host: something v diff & v useful will garner more points when solved. The teams have M minutes to pick a problem to solve over the next 72hrs, and the problems are first come first served. Obviously if your competitor "goes big" in selecting a problem, if you think they'll probably succeed and you want to beat them, you'll have to go big too!

This is followed by the remainder of the 72hrs being observed probably like a cricket test match... One can watch live, or just subscribe to the RSS feed for an update when something fun happens.

I'd cover the competitors in sensors, for a laugh, and give them free access to a coffee bar with a barista, a masseur, a cold shower, whatever live musicians they'd asked me to get in for them, and anything else I can think of that makes good TV.

Would anyone add/alter anything to/in this formula?

The latest entry in the University of Michigan Press' "Landmark Video Games" series is here❗

In this book, author Simon Dor sets out to examine the history and the legacy of one of the world's most influential RTS titles - #StarCraft.

watching the #dota 2 major and the final is between a team sponsored by a gambling company, and one sponsored by the saudi arabian government. its sponsored by the us air force. this is really the logical conclusion of a community that never dealt with gamergate huh. i love #esports but fuck the politics is bleakkkkk.

Since I moved instance, I guess it's time for a proper #introduction / #introductions

Hi, I'm Orion. I'm 22 years old, go by they/them and I'm currently an #Esports student at #Sheffield Hallam University in my final year. I used to play #CounterStrike but quit for a number of reasons.

Outside of the esports industry, my main interests are #Eurovision, as well as #music in general.

I also have an ongoing project called onelastyear. essentially i'm making youtube videos every day for a year (i'm currently at day 239 at the time of writing)
